The 80-year-old founder and cleric in charge of Deeper Christian Life Ministries, Pastor William Kumuyi has advised Christians to abstain from disrespecting people in government. Pastor Kumuyi made this known on Twitter.
President Buhari’s government has been frequently questioned and criticised but here are two reasons why Pastor Kumuyi should not be criticised for his statement:
1 – Because it is stated in the Bible: The scriptures in Romans 13:1 states and explains why believers must see that they submit to governing authorities. Romans 13:1 says: “Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.”
2 – Disrespecting Government can lead to punishments: Recall that believers around the world including pastors were arrested for disobeying Covid-19 lockdown restrictions. Christians need to respect the government inorder to avoid unpleasant consequences.
