2023 Presidency: Crowdfund Account For Peter Obi Finally Opens

Mr Seun Onigbinde, the Chief Executive Officer of BudgIT, has mooted a campaign to crowdfund N10 billion for Peter Obi’s presidential ambition.

Obi declared his intention to join the 2023 presidential race if his party, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) agrees to zone the ticket to the South.

In a tweet, the tech guru noted that a GoFundMe account would serve the purpose of funding the presidential hopeful in the coming elections.

According to him, many Nigerian youths deem the former governor competent to lead the nation out of its current economic woes.

However, he clarified that the suggestion is not an endorsement of Peter Obi.

“I only made a suggestion based on conversations on this space. I am not interested in raising the funds or managing it.

“For records, my tweet is “for those interested” and want to make a big statement. It’s not an endorsement for Peter Obi”, Onigbinde said..

Onigbinde’s idea comes a day after Financial Times of London pegged the cost of electing a president in Nigeria at $2 billion, about N1 trillion.

Onigbinde believes the crowdfunding would level the financial playing ground for Mr Obi, who is likely to contend with moneybags such as Bola Tinubu and Orji Uzor Kalu.

There are other independent candidates such as Ms Khadijah Okunnu-Lamidi, Professor Christopher Imumolen and some others.
