3 Bible Verses Believers Need To Stop Misquoting

While we study the Bible daily, we often experience some challenges associated with the interpretations. We have misinterpreted many Bible verses to the point that they have become normal things for people. When you read your Bible, ask the Holy Spirit to give you the right Interpretation so that you don’t end up misquoting the Bible.

There are 3 Bible verses we commonly misquote which is not right. The disadvantage of this act is that; it makes God look like someone who doesn’t keep to promise which is not true. God keeps to His promise but if you misquote Him, you might think He is not meeting His part of the bargains. Here are the 3 verses and the right interpretations.

1. 1 Corinthians 10:13.

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. NIV

To many, it says: God won’t give you more than you can bear. To these people, they believe that any challenge they face in life, they have the ability to triumph over them. This is not true because some do fall sick and die in the process. Does it mean that God is not keeping to His promise? You and I know that is not true.

There are challenges you will face that you would need someone else to help you out. There are pains and sorrows that you would feel that are beyond your control as a Christian so please, do not misquote God.

What it really means: What the Bible simply says there is that, God won’t give you any temptation without providing how to overcome it. It is all about temptation and not other difficulties in Life.

2. Matthew 17:20

He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” NIV

What many think it says: If your faith is like a mustard seed, you can move mountains. This is a misquotation as two things were wrongly misquoted in this context. Saying your faith must be like a mustard see before it works is one side of it. It is not compulsory it must be at least as little as a mustard seed. Secondly, you are not the one to move the mountains.

What it really says: No matter how small your faith is; as long as you have it, you can tell the mountain to move, and “it will move”. I want you to take note of that emphasized sentence above. The mountain is the one moving so you are not the one moving it. With your little faith, you can command it while God does the moving.

3. Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. NIV

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. KJV

What many think it says: Many thinks God says He shall make us rich/prosperous in life. They believe that since God is their creator and has promised them, they can’t suffer in life.

What it really says: God is trying to let you know that His plans for you are good but are dependent on giving you a future and hope. Kjv says ” Giving you an expected end. This simply means you must have an expectation that you want God to fulfill. To have this expectation, you need to have work and a plan for your future.

God’s duty is to perfect your plans and make you prosper in whatever you do. If you are not doing anything to help yourself, this promise won’t work for you. If you choose to be an armed robber, this promise is not for you. You must have a future by doing something that is not against His commandments before you can be a partaker of this promise.
