Three of the Best Christian Books Concerning Heaven

Near-death experiences and the afterlife appear to have become more prevalent in recent years. What precisely may we anticipate after death as followers of Jesus Christ? What is paradise truly like, we wonder? Great novels about heaven have been produced in the last 10 years by some extremely well-known Christian writers. Although not Scripture, these writings are theologically solid and grounded in the Bible. But first, let’s read the Bible and examine what it says about heaven before we get to those books.

What Is Heaven Like According to the Bible?

In the last moments before going to the cross, Jesus spoke regarding the promise of paradise: “Do not let your hearts be disturbed. You have faith in God; have faith in me as well. If there weren’t so many rooms at my father’s home, would I have told you I was going there to set one aside for you? (John 14:1-2). From what Jesus said, we infer that God has prepared heaven for us. Although some people see heaven as a heavenly location up in the clouds, most theologians believe it is appropriate to conceive of heaven as having two stages. On the cross, Jesus assured the thief that he would join Him that day in the current heaven, known as “paradise” (Luke 23:42-43).We shall immediately be in the presence of the Lord when we pass away. When Stephen was stoned to death, he had this experience. He really saw the brightness of the rising Christ before him in heaven (Acts 7:55).

In Philippians 3:20, the apostle Paul said, “But our citizenship is in heaven. We joyfully anticipate a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will change our feeble bodies into something like his gorgeous body, using the power that gives him authority over everything. What a fantastic promise! There is little doubt that when Jesus returns, He will take us to heaven where He will have our bodies changed into ones that resemble His. We are to wait for heaven with fervent hope while we carry out our lives here on earth.

Paul said in his epistle to the Thessalonian church that the Lord himself would descend from heaven with a resounding command, an archangel’s voice, and a trumpet summons from God, and that the dead in Christ would rise first. We who are still living and present shall then be taken up with them in the clouds to be with the Lord in the air. Thus, we shall spend all of eternity with the Lord (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17). These words tell us that there will be a rapture, or the gathering of the elect, when Christ returns. When He takes us to heaven, we will spend all of eternity with Him.According to the Bible, heaven is an everlasting place. We who are in Christ will spend all of eternity there with the Lord since it is not limited by time.

The new heaven and the new earth are often depicted in the book of Revelation. The throne and the one sitting there, who resembled jasper and ruby, are described in detail by John. The throne was surrounded by 24 elders who were wearing white clothing and gold crowns (Revelation 4:2-3). In a different vision, John portrays people from every country, language, and tribe praising God in a different vision as they gather around the throne (Revelation 7:9). According to this scripture, there will be a wide range of ethnic groups in heaven. John gives us such a vivid and lovely image. Because “the old order” has already gone away, there won’t be any more wailing or mourning in the New Heaven. In the new Jerusalem, there will only be happiness and pleasure (Revelation 21:1–5). The river of life, which freely flows from God’s throne, is the last thing John shows us. Because the Lord God Himself will fill heaven with brilliant light, he also says that it is already full of light (Revelation 22:1-5). It represents the perfection of the first garden, where God placed Adam, even after their creation. In heaven, Eden will be recreated, and God and humankind will live in perfect harmony.
