The General Overseer, of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, pastor Enoch Adeboye has said God once threatened to wipe him out of the surface of the earth if he is ever proud.
According to him, this lesson by God has been what has been his guide in remaining humble, since all this year’s.
Alongside humility, I will be sharing 3 more important qualities exhibited by this man of God, that other clergymen should emulate;
1. Humility: This act of humility, and total obedience to God by pastor Adeboye, is an attribute other men of should try to inculcate.
Most men of God in our present dispensation, have turned themselves to God, allowing their church members to worship them, and the ground they step on. They feel that what they are today, or the position they’ve attained is of their own doing, even the scriptures made us to understand that, “it’s not by might, neither is it by power, but by my spirit says the Lord”. The origination of problem, facing most men of God, is that they forget the place of God in their life, and feel they’ve arrived, they begin to have the ‘I, I’ syndrome just like lucifer.
It is also written that “God opposes the proud, but favours the humble”. Men of God should always try not to forget the days of their humble beginning, and they should also try to always remember the place of God in their life, and not give themselves the glory or accolades that only God deserves, because pride always comes before a fall.
2. Charity: When it comes to giving, this man of God sure does lot of it.
Recently the His Love Foundation (HLF), the charity arm of the church, announced the launch of a new crowdfunding campaign to raise and dispense funds in an honourable, and innovative manner, for the benefits of millions of Nigerians. During the covid-19 lockdown, a great number of donations were also made. This is something other men of God should try to emulate, it shouldn’t always be the members giving and giving all the time, but they should also learn to give back to the society too.
There shouldn’t be scenarios whereby the man of God is living in abundance, and enjoying, while the church members are suffering and wallowing in poverty, even apostle paul in the book of corinthians said that “if we have everything but lack charity, we are nothing but sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal”.
3. Less controversial: Pastor Enoch Adeboye is one out of many clergymen men, who is known for being scandalous free, with less controversies surrounding him, you can never see him in the news for the wrong reasons. This quality should be something our men of God should try to imbibe.
Most men of God, forget that they are role models to many people, they forget that a lot of young ones look up to them, you see them always on the news for the wrong reasons, they are always being surrounded by controversies and scandalous activities, that even the unbelievers can never be seen engaging in. Apostle Paul wrote in the book of 2 Corinthians 3:2-3 that;
“You yourselves are our letter of recommendation, written on our hearts, to be known and read by all. And you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts”. (ESV)
The disciples were called Christians, because people around them saw, that they had the attribute of Christ, and acted like Christ. So also should men of God acts, they’re like letters the world is going to read, so they should always try to guide their actions.
