6 Medical Problems You Can Develop When You Lack Vitamin A


Vitamin A, also referred to as “retinol”, is a fat soluble vitamin which is required in the body to improve vision, growth, reproduction, and immunity. When your body do not have the required amount of vitamin A, that means you have developed vitamin A deficiency. Lack of vitamin A in your body, will make you develop certain medical problems which can cause harm to your body.

1. Acne and Dry skin

Vitamin A helps to keep the skin healthy and also fight off inflammations. However, when you have vitamin A deficiency in your body, you would develop a skin inflammation such as acne, eczema, and dry skin.

2. Night blindness and Dry eyes

Vitamin A is required in the body to improve vision, keep your eyes healthy, and prevent the occurrence of certain eye defects. However, when you have vitamin A deficiency in your body, it could affect your eyes and cause certain eye problems such as Night blindness and dry eyes.

3. Throat and Chest infection

Vitamin A supplements contains beta-carotene which helps to protect people against infections which can occur in their throat and chest. However, when people have vitamin A deficiency in the body, it make them more susceptible to develop throat and chest infection.

4. Stunted Growth

Vitamin A helps in the proper development of the body thereby preventing stunted growth in children. However, when children have vitamin A deficiency in their body, it can cause stunted growth in their body.
