6 Things that are hard for Christians to do

The Six Most Difficult Tasks a Christian Must Perform

A buddy of mine once shared an important life lesson with me that has stuck with me to this day. He repeated what he had heard: “We select our difficulties.” As an illustration, he gave me one of his own. To struggle with excess weight is challenging. Dropping extra pounds is a challenge. Then he turned the subject back to me. Addiction is challenging. Remaining sober is challenging. When I asked him what I should do, he instructed me to choose one.

Challenges await us in life, some of which we may anticipate and others of which we may not. Whatever the case may be, we each have the freedom to choose the nature of the difficulties we confront in life.

That got my mind working. Likewise, it’s not easy to be a Christian, but it’s also not easy to not be one. In the same way that I have to remind myself of my value in God on a regular basis, I suppose that atheists who don’t base their identity on God are doomed to seek their worth in transient things.

If you take stock of your own life, you’ll see that you, too, have had your fair share of adversity. Faith in God is challenging, but unbelief is far more difficult. It’s difficult to meet people, but being alone is much more isolating. Whatever the situation may be, I implore you to never feel completely alone. Not at all, you idiot. Practicing Christianity is challenging, and doing it every day takes dedication.

Please read on if you’re in need of some inspiration. Listed below are the six most challenging tasks for Christians today.

  1. Wait

Put your trust in the Lord; be brave; and be strong. Just give it time and trust in the Lord. (Psalm 27:14)

They proclaimed that patience is a virtue. Nothing about patience being easy was said. As well they should. Patience is a virtue and a skill that can be developed, but it is also a skill that is very hard to master. Somehow, waiting on God can be both as tedious and excruciating as watching paint dry or giving birth to a premature baby.

Various biblical characters awaited God’s intervention. Abraham put off having a family until God made it possible. Job put his hope in God’s ability to heal him. God’s next move is sometimes obvious, and other times it isn’t. The latter adds a great deal of stress to the time spent waiting. What is beyond, we can only guess about.

Think about your own existence. How do you feel when waiting? Bored, furious, or sad? Take solace in the fact that God is aware of your circumstances and hears your prayers, whatever you may be waiting for. I know how frustrating waiting may be, but instead of moping about it, why don’t you think about how you can make the most of the time you have?

Let me share with you some advice someone gave me. While you’re waiting, pray.

  1. Trust

You must be brave and powerful; you must not be scared of them. For the Lord your God goes with you; he does not leave or forsake you. In Deuteronomy 31:6, God commands:

When we are at the peak of a mountain, it is simple to trust in God. Holding on to God even when we struggle to keep our heads above water in a deep valley. When everything seems to be falling apart around us, the last thing we want to hear is that God has our best interests at heart.

When we witness disasters occurring throughout the globe and corrupt regimes running rampant, we wonder where God is even if we aren’t the ones directly suffering. As Christians, we should aim for the supernatural reaction rather than the normal one.

King Nebuchadnezzar ordered that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego be cast into a fiery furnace as punishment. The people of this kingdom rejected the gods and gilded statues of their monarch. They wouldn’t give in to idolatry even if they knew it would ruin their lives. They made it clear to the monarch that they put their faith in God. They had faith that God would come to their aid, and if He didn’t, he was still the one and only deity nonetheless.

The king and his subjects benefited much from their faith (Daniel 3).

Likewise, God is eager to act in our lives, and He often does. Not everything that God does is obvious or even explicable to us. However, we should always make an effort to trust, regardless of the situation.

  1. Serve our Enemies

I say to you, instead, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. Mathew 5:44

Being merciful to our adversaries is distinct from really helping them. It’s not always easy to forgive, but it’s human nature to want to. Serving our enemy with humility is not something I see many people volunteering to do.

Putting yourself out there to assist others might seem like a burden, especially if the other person is unpleasant, such as a rude employee, a frustrated employer, or an irate neighbor. Servicing an adversary will seem counter to your nature if you are an introvert and standoffish to begin with.

But Scripture is quite clear on this matter, so we shouldn’t let our subjective feelings or the opinions of others cloud our judgment. Those around us deserve our blessings and forgiveness. We can and should pray for them and provide our services to them if the occasion arises.

There’s no longer any necessity to interpret the Bible literally. It’s hardly surprising that Jesus often used parables; they allow for numerous interpretations. We should be ready to serve our opponents, but it doesn’t mean we have to blindly comply with their every demand. What to do if your opponent begs you to help them steal a bank. Obviously, the answer is not yes. The response is still no if your opponent asks for all of your money, but if they only want some sugar, what’s the worst that could happen?

Seek guidance from God on how you might effectively help your adversaries via prayer.

  1. Remember how good God is

My last thoughts turned to the Lord, and my prayer found its way to your sacred temple as my life faded away. (Jonah 2:7)

Concerning adversaries, faith, and patience, we may begin to doubt God’s support when it seems as if nothing but bad luck seems to befall us. Where is God when we need him most? As a matter of fact, not just to us but to everyone everywhere.

When doubting God’s kindness arises, it’s wise to do what the biblical heroes of old did and reflect on the past. When we fail to remember everything that God has done for ourselves and others, we are more prone to doubt. The spotlight now falls on the downside. This trend is turned around when we reflect on God’s kindness. Then, all of a sudden, the uncertainty disappears.

Finding things that help you recall God’s kindness is the greatest approach to keep those memories fresh in your memory. While reading the Bible, keeping a prayer diary, and surrounding yourself with supportive friends are all helpful, they are by no means the only options. The question is, “What can you do today?”

  1. Finding a Community

Two people may do more than one since they share the rewards of their labor. If one falls, the other may help him up, but woe to the one who falls alone. (See also Ecclesiastes 4:9)

The church is being negatively impacted by the terrible tendency of superficiality, in which members only present their outermost selves to others and avoid developing meaningful relationships with others. This is an immediate hurdle for Christians seeking meaningful fellowship. The Bible says that “iron sharpens iron,” but to what extent can we hone one another without exposing ourselves?

To hone one’s skills, one must be exposed, and to be open to risk is to be sharpened.

Furthermore, this problem of superficiality is not exclusive to any one religious group or sect. We speak about assisting others, but in reality, most churches have become much like the rest of our society. Too much of our attention is given to ourselves.

Know that there are individuals who will accept you if a sense of community is what you want. We’ll need to put in some work to track them down, but God’s help and timing will be just as crucial. Think positively and expect His provision.

  1. Model your life after Christ’s

Therefore, as God’s dearly loved children, imitate his holiness by walking in love, just as Christ loved us and sacrificed himself for us. [(Ephesians 5:1-2)]

Many non-Christians have doubts about Christianity because they believe its adherents are hypocrites. We tell the world to act a certain way, yet our own actions frequently mirror theirs. Negative traits such as greed, thievery, and licentiousness. The public needs to be reminded that the church is a safe haven for those who have suffered great loss. Being Christlike is challenging because we are flawed individuals. No one here will ever be as perfect as God. Not possible. The point, though, is to make an effort, striving for perfection even if it is impossible to achieve.

Each day brings new challenges as we fight against our natural inclinations, keep the faith, patiently wait, and so on. While we fall short of His perfection every day, the more we take on His character, the more we shall live for His honor.
