8 Ways To Get Ready for Jesus’ Return

The Return of Christ: Eight Ways to Get Ready

Jesus said He would come back for His followers and bring them into His heavenly kingdom when He ascended. We are currently in the Church Age, and all Christians can agree that Christ will return, and that we are to be prepared, walking the straight and narrow path, so that He may say to us, “well done, good and faithful servant,” on that glorious day when we meet Him face to face and hear His praise for our lives.

The following are eight suggestions for those who long for a Christ-centered life and anticipate His coming.

  1. Pray

Having a strong prayer life is crucial for every Christian, but it is especially important for those who want to be prepared for their last encounter with Jesus. Someone once likened praying to having an ongoing phone conversation with God, in which you may dial His number at any time and never get an answering machine. In this way, we will be prepared to meet Jesus when He comes or takes us home to live with Him, as the Bible urges us to do.

And do not cease to give thanks for all the Lord’s people, because this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (Ephesians 6:18).

  1. Examine the Bible and Learn More

Reading God’s Word, together with prayer, is crucial if you want to be ready for the coming of Christ. Reading and studying the Bible not only acquaints us with what Jesus said concerning the end times and His imminent return, but it also deepens our understanding of Him and makes room for the Holy Spirit to operate abundantly in our lives to make us more like Christ as we confront the challenges of this life.

That the servant of God[a] may be complete in every good activity, 17 “all Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

  1. Repent

You must move away from sin and toward God if you really want to repent. A humble heart is required for repentance, but it is also one of the primary requirements for a growing relationship with Jesus. Although repentance is necessary from the beginning of a Christian’s walk with Christ, it is also an ongoing discipline. There is no way around succumbing to temptation and sin, but by humbling ourselves before the Lord and confessing our transgressions, we may be reconciled to Him via His unmerited favor and forgiveness.

Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold firm, and repent; but if you do not awaken, I will come to you like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I come to you (Revelation 3:3).

  1. Increasingly trust God

It’s crucial to keep growing in your relationship with Christ once you’ve accepted Him into your life. At Revelation, Jesus gives a warning to the church in Laodicea about this:

I am aware of everything you do and can attest to the fact that you are neither a heater nor a cooler. That you were either one or the other is my desire. I shall spit you out of my mouth since you are neither hot nor cold. You boast, “I have money.” I couldn’t ask for more. In that case, I have no requirements! You are blind, impoverished, unhappy, miserable, and unable to see that you have none of these things, and yet you refuse to believe it. Therefore, I suggest you purchase gold from me, gold that has through a fire purification process. Then you may expect to get wealthy. In addition, I sell white clothes to cover your nakedness and eye medicine to restore your sight. Everyone I care about receives constructive criticism and disciplinary action from me. So make an effort and repent of your apathy (Revelation 3:15-19).

Maintain a consistent prayer life, a life of Bible study, and Christian community involvement so that your faith may grow and you may be prepared to meet the Lord.

  1. Proclaim your religion.

Whether it’s the woman on the subway, your next-door neighbor, or a member of your own family, be receptive to the ways in which the Lord opens doors to relationships and to people’s hearts so that you can share your faith with them. There are so many people in the world who do not know Jesus as Lord and Savior, and we do not know the exact day and time Christ will return.

He instructed them to “go throughout all the world and proclaim the gospel to everyone.” Those who believe in Me and are subsequently baptized will be rescued from hell. But anyone does not faith in Me is a sinner who deserves eternal punishment (Mark 16:15-16).

  1. Figure out what’s most important.

Even while it’s healthy to keep busy and productive, it’s not good to let the troubles of the world and the many items on our to-do lists to cause us to grow far from God and to prevent us from staying in intimate fellowship with Him.

The Bible is full with stories of individuals who disregarded this warning and were therefore unprepared for Jesus’ second coming (for example, Luke 12:41-48).

You also need to be prepared. When you least expect Him, the Son of Man will appear (Luke 12:40).

  1. Have faith that God is working

Even though no one knows the day or hour of Jesus’ return, the Bible tells us to be prepared and to be sure that God is at work even when we can’t see it. The entire Bible is the story of His overarching plan for the world. Currently, we are living in the Church Age, when Jesus could return at any day or moment.

As you have always obeyed, not only in my presence but now much more in my absence, continue working out your salvation with fear and trembling, because it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to accomplish his good plan (Philippians 2:12-13).

  1. Maintain an everlasting outlook

Remembering that we are temporary residents of this world until Christ returns and takes us to live with Him eternally is a comforting and encouraging thought as we go through the ups and downs of this life.

However, the place where we really belong is in heaven. For from that place comes the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, and he will change our humble bodies to be like his beautiful body, just as he himself was changed by the power that allows him to put everything under his control (Philippians 3:20-21).
