Biblical Reason Why No Christian Should Be Poor

In the book of Deuteronomy chapter 15 verse 4, God said that nobody should be poor among his people. “However, there should be no poor among you, for in the land the LORD your God is giving you to possess as your inheritance, he will richly bless you,”

Verse 5 and 6 of Deuteonomy 15 state the reason why none should not be poor among God’s people. “if only you fully obey the LORD your God and are careful to follow all these commands I am giving you today.

“For the LORD your God will bless you as he has promised, and you will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. You will rule over many nations but none will rule over you.”

Verse 7 and 8 told them what they should do incase there is anyone among them who poor. It says they should not stingy but that they should be generous and give to them

“If there is a poor man among your brothers in any of the towns of the land that the LORD your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward your poor brother.

” Rather be openhanded and freely lend him whatever he needs.”

From the above verses we learn that the reason why God said there won’t be the poor among his people is that those who are rich will give to those who are in need. In that way everyone will have.

We see this attitude among Jesus’ disciples in the Bible book of Acts of the Apostles. The Bible says the believers were in one accord and shared their properties to one another according to their needs.

“And all that believed were together, and had all things common;

And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.” Acts of the Apostles 2:44-45.

Furthermore, verses 32 to 35 of chapter 4 of the same Act of the Apostles say that the multitude who joined the believers were of one heart and one soul. It says the rich among them didn’t claim that the things they had belongs to them. But they left them for the use of everyone of them.

“And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.
