Bishop David Oyedepo seems to believe that praying for misfortune to befall your enemies is a biblical position every true believer must take. In his sermon today, during the midweek communion service, he explained why every believer must pray for vengeance to fall upon their enemies. He declared that the Holy Spirit is the spirit of vengeance, and until vengeance is executed, the wicked will continue to do their wickedness.
“I have seen innocent people suffer under the affliction of the wicked. Just afliction after afliction. But it ends today,” he said.
“There is no mickey-mickey Christianity,” he said. “We are in a warfare. Quit ye like men and fight!”
He then read from Psalm 94:1-7, which says;
“O Lord God, to whom vengeance belongeth; O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, shew thyself.
“Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth: render a reward to the proud.
“Lord, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph?
“How long shall they utter and speak hard things? and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves?
“They break in pieces thy people, O Lord, and afflict thine heritage. “They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless.
“Yet they say, The Lord shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it.”
He revealed that the Holy Spirit executes vengeance when any force tries to stop the progress of his people.
For example, he killed Ananias and Sapphira because they tried to make a mockery of the revival taking place in the early church, and he struck Elymas with blindness because he tried to stop the proconsul from listening to the gospel Paul was preaching. He declared that in the same way, you must pray for the Holy Spirit to execute vengeance on the enemies of your life.
