I was really privileged when I didn’t have a bank account, according to Bishop Oyedepo.
Some individuals turn to Jesus in the hopes that He will provide them with wealth or other tangible possessions. When those things don’t materialize as they had hoped, they turn their backs on Jesus.
Bishop David Oyedepo has cautioned his followers to avoid worldliness and covetousness. During his speech on the second day of the Week of Spiritual Emphasis, he issued this caution. He claimed that despite not having a bank account, he was so content with Jesus that he saw himself as affluent.
“I was so prosperous when I had no bank account. So satisfied. When rain was beating me on a borrowed motorbike to go for Jesus. I had to borrow an agbada from someone because rain had drenched me from my coat inside. So satisfied. The way people are rushing after the things of the world it has wrecked many people,” he lamented.
He warned his followers to beware of loving the things of the world, because it will hinder them from loving God.
“You can’t love the world and love God at the same time,” he said.
He rebuked people who make material things the basis of their salvation. According to him, such people cannot last in the faith, and in a short while they will leave.
“They will say since I got saved, nothing has been working for me. Are you saved? He will say yes. Is heaven not working for you? He will say that is not what I’m talking about. What is he talking about? See my friends have cars. See my friends have estates,” the Bishop said.
When he prayed, he added, “May I never have anything that you will give me that will take me away from you.”
He urged his followers to say the same prayer.
