Bishop Oyedepo to Youth: “Work hard and Have Patience”

The Chancellor of Landmark University Omu-Aran, Kwara State, Bishop David Oyedepo, has deplored the absence of moral rectitude among the nation’s youths.

He therefore cautioned the youth against inordinate ambition for compulsory acquisition of mundane things. Oyedepo, who spoke with reporters at a review of programme of the activities marking the ninth convocation of the university, said the youth should believe in dignity of labour to avoid sudden death.

Quoting from Proverbs 1 verse 10 while addressing the 8th graduation set of the institution, the Founder and presiding Bishop of Winners Chapel International, noted: “Some other youths are into hard drug business. A number of these may have been shot dead in the course of their businesses and many may be lamenting in various prisons around the world.

“Hurry is the breeding ground for horror. Some youths must have joined armed robbery gangs because they can’t wait; the process is too slow for them. They don’t believe in the dignity of labour, leading to many losing their lives. A number of youths today engage in computer scam and many are grieving in prison while others continue to suffer irreversible curses from their victims.”

At the colourful event, a total of 468 graduates were awarded varying degrees in their areas of discipline including those at Masters and PhD levels.

Oyedepo warned the youth against craving to travel out of the country without a defined mission, adding that travelling out of the country was not an achievement. He also urged them to embrace the word, “patience”.

He added: “If you ask some of these youth, you want to travel, but to where? You may be surprised to hear their answer, ‘anywhere’ or you are travelling to do what? Their response is anything. I have always believed in using indigenous solutions for indigenous problems.

“There is nothing wrong in going out to study, but there is everything wrong in leaving one’s life to chance. Many lived a displaced life all through their lifetime. Remember, you have only one life to live and you don’t have a spare. Therefore, jealously guard the only one life you have.”
