Can I divide my tithes between two different churches?

Answers from Random People Online

No.

I am not a Jew who lived before Christ, and I am not aware of any Levitical priests in need of assistance, which is where the tithe went.

It was also not always monetary in nature. It accounted for 10% of their crop. I don’t bring vegetables to church so that I can properly tithe.

I’m not suggesting Christians shouldn’t give. I’m only demonstrating that the strict 10% tithe is not what God wants of Christians. And many churches force this on their congregants, guilting them into giving out of obligation rather than love.

Tell me who makes the greatest sacrifice if person A earns $20,000 per year. They give 10%, thus a $2,000 tithe. That leaves them just $18,000 to survive on. That’s a substantial sum of money.

Person B earns $100,000 each year. They, too, give 10%, making a $10,000 tithe. That leaves them with only $90,000 to survive on.

Person A will suffer financial hardship if they are forced to give $2,000 out of $20,000, leaving them with only $18,000 to live on. Person B, on the other hand, has $90,000 left over after tithing. How is that a sacrifice or putting them in a difficult situation?

This is one of the major faults I see in the tithing scam. These preachers are telling people they must pay to be a Christian.

But, regardless of what I believe, what does the Bible say? That is our last authority…

9:7 in 2 Corinthians.

Each of you should give what you have determined in your heart to give, not grudgingly or under duress, since God loves a joyful giver.

Given this, why do churches make it mandatory for their members to pay a tithe when the Bible says very clearly that we should never give because we have to?

The simplest answer is YES. You can divide your tithe in as many ways as your conscience allows, but that is not the biblical paradigm. Wherever your treasure is, so will your heart be. A conflicted heart is a divided treasure.

In today’s world, there’s a church on every corner, and ten thousand more online… one for the wife, another for the kids, and so on. There are numerous compelling reasons to have more than one church. Simply make certain that you are personally invested. Find a way to serve or volunteer. You must be more than a nickel and a nose.

Dear Friends.

Don’t get me wrong, am a regular tither and i believe in tithing. I attend a church in Lagos and am an active member of the church. Yesterday, i attended a missionary program and when i saw what some brothers and sisters are going through to get someone to hear about Jesus, my heart melted. I have a passion for mission and to support , these missionaries do not even get paid. Am thinking, why do churches in the cites waste money to invite people to church when these people they are trying to reach hear the word everyday, on TV, radio, in the bus, newsprint etc?? while some people are risking their lives to make sure some other people get to hear the name Jesus, and yet do not get financial support for their ventures

My question is this, is it right for me to split my tithe, pay a part to the missionary institution (church) and the rest to my local church?
Thanks

To begin with, as a Christian, you are not obligated to tithe because the modern notion of tithing was derived from the manipulation of a biblical instruction to tithe agricultural produce given to the Jews [not Christians] in the Old Testament. If you study your bible thoroughly, particularly the new testament, where Christianity began, you will discover that tithing was never a part of the Christian faith established by Christ through the apsotles. Christians, on the other hand, are exhorted to give freely as they intend in their hearts [2 Corinthians 9:7]. So don’t let anyone force you to tithe as a religious obligation or insist that it go to a local church. Even in the Old Testament, although Jews were taught to tithe, tithes were never money from revenue, nor were they the sole preserve of the “church.” Instead, Jews were encouraged to eat their tithe and also give to the poor. deut 14:22-29 offers greater insight on the biblical nature and purpose of tithes in contrast to the unscriptural interpretation that is currently preached and practiced.

7 2 Corinthians 9:7 You must each decide in your heart how much you are willing to give. “Don’t give hesitantly or in response to pressure.” Because God appreciates cheerful givers.

14:22-29 Deuteronomy:

“You must set aside a tithe of your harvests—one-tenth of all crops harvested each year.” 23 Bring this tithe to the designated place of worship—the place where the Lord your God chooses to honor his name—and eat it in his presence. This includes your grain tithes, new wine, olive oil, and the firstborn males of your flocks and herds. This will teach you to constantly fear the Lord your God.

24 “Now, when the Lord your God blesses you with a bountiful harvest, the place of worship he selects to honor his name may be too far away for you to bring the tithe.” 25 If this is the case, you may sell the tithe part of your crops and livestock, put the money in a pouch, and travel to the location designated by the Lord your God. 26 When you arrive, you may spend the money on whatever you desire, including cattle, sheep, goats, wine, or other alcoholic beverages. Then celebrate with your household in the presence of the Lord your God. 27 And don’t forget about the Levites in your town, for they will not be given any land among you.

28 “Bring the complete tithe of that year’s harvest and keep it in the nearest town at the end of the third year.” 29 Give it to the Levites, who will not be given land among you, as well as to the foreigners who live among you, orphans, and widows in your communities, so they can eat and be satisfied. The Lord your God will then bless you in all your endeavors.

Tithe is a tenth and it belongs to God, and you can’t split it. Shikenna. The tithe must go to God’s house. 5% is no longer tithe; it has to be a tenth (10%). Why is it difficult for you to fund the missionaries from the remaining 90%? I don’t think your heart should not be involved here; tithe is a commandment you must adhere to. If it is not about the money (or percentages), why call it tithe? Are you sure you understand what you are talking about or maybe I should ask why you (your basis for) tithe?
