Can married couples make love during fasting in Christianity

Two earlier queries that deal with fasting could be of interest. The first one asks, “How often do you pray when fasting?” Secondly, “What does fasting include?” is asked. It’s vital to keep in mind that fasting just entails depriving oneself of food and sometimes water. We will now find out whether the Bible says it is permissible to make love while fasting. In that example, is it permissible to make love to your spouse or have physical contact with your wife while fasting?

God’s Command for Sex

God rarely gives instructions to married couples to refrain from having sex in the Old or New Testaments. It is strange that God has given us numerous instructions not to do something, yet He seldom forbids or compels married couples to engage in sexual activity. Exodus 19:15 is one of the rare instances in which God forbade males from engaging in sexual activity. It was done in order to praise God. Couples may refrain for the sake of prayer according to 1 Corinthians 7:5, but only if they both agree! Husbands were warned not to have intercourse with their wives when they were menstruating in Leviticus 15:19; 18:19; 24; 20:18; and Ezekiel 18:5–6; 22:10. These are the only circumstances in which God forbids sexual activity or declares that it is acceptable for couples to abstain from having sex. God never forbids a couple from having sexual relations while fasting.

God supports marriage and sexual relations.

The apostle Paul actually advises couples to do the exact opposite. God favors having sex between married partners. The Song of Solomon, which portrays courting, marriage, the wedding night, and marriage between a man and a woman, is a wonderful illustration of this reality. The whole fourth chapter, which is about the wedding night, is dedicated to a detailed, sensual, yet metaphorical account of sexual encounters. God approves of sexual intercourse between married partners.

Evidently, some Christians in Corinth believed that refraining from having intercourse with one’s spouse was a virtue. It’s possible that some spouses were against having sex. Perhaps one or both of the partners believed it was wise to frequently refrain from having sexual intercourse. That was not a good concept, according to God. Take a look at what Paul had to say.

However, each man must have his own wife, and each woman must have her own spouse, due to immorality. Both the husband and the woman have obligations to their spouses, which must both be met. The husband has control over his own body, although the woman does not; conversely, the husband does not have control over his own body, whereas the wife does. Come together again so that Satan won’t tempt you because of your lack of restraint. Stop depriving one another, unless by mutual agreement for a short time, so that you can devote yourselves to prayer. 2–5 in 1 Corinthians (NASB)

Another Angle – Can married couples make love during fasting in Christianity

Fasting is an exercise for the soul, while sex is an exercise for the body. But the Bible tells us that the body and the spirit are always at war with each other. Why fool yourself with something if you don’t know how to do it?

When you fast, you don’t give your body its usual pleasures so that you can grow spiritually. Apostle Paul said that neither partner should ever deny the other’s sexual pleasure, but he also said that a couple should agree to skip sex during a fast. Due to their lack of self-control, Satan can tempt either one of them or both of them. (1 Cor 7:6)

The only reason people who fast are told to eat during the exercise is to stay alive. So tell me, when you refuse to eat, which helps you stay alive, or if it’s sex that you can’t live without, it just means that you choose God or the world as your top priority.

I think it’s a great blessing if a husband and wife both give up food and sex and pray together as one mind, body, and soul. But these days, it’s hard to find…
