Check Out These Six (6) Bible Verses That Can Help You Overcome Addiction

Addictions come in many forms. We immediately think of alcohol and drugs when we hear the term but people can become addicted to many things.

How many Christians do you know are dealing with a form of addiction in this season of their life? I’m very sure you know someone. In fact, it’s very probable that you yourself may be battling with a sort of addiction.

However, this is far from the truth. People can be addicted to good things yet it can still be destructive. In the light of the law and holiness of God, the spiritual weight of addiction to drugs is no different from the weight of addiction to work and money.

There are many schools of thought pertaining to what addiction is and how to consider an inclination towards something an addiction.

Yet one thing that all Christians can agree on is that through the grace of God and the transforming power of His Spirit, we can be set free from addictions. The Bible is a wonderful piece of literature that can provide so much help during the recovery process.

LIST: Books Of The Bible And Their Authors

Here are some of the many scriptures that bring light upon the promise of freedom God has given to us through the blood of Jesus.

Romans 7:14 | “For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold under sin.” The starting point in receiving the promise of freedom in Christ is admitting that we cannot free ourselves and we need a Savior.

2 Peter 2:19 | “They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved.” Addiction is powerful because sin is powerful. Every form of curse and suffering comes from sin. The good news is that the power of God’s love is more powerful than sin.

Is There Any Scriptural Support for the Concept of the Rapture?

1 Corinthians 6:12 | “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything.” Just as Paul proclaimed that he was in complete control over his desire for earthly things, we too can claim promises over dependence.

James 4:7 | “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” When we submit to the lordship of God and allow Him to take control over us, He will be faithful to deliver you from the enemy. Sometimes almost overnight, sometimes longer, but for sure He will bring you victory.

1 Corinthians 10:13 | “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” Because of God’s faithfulness, no struggle can overtake you. Jesus has already provided a way for you to get out of sin and the deadly consequences of sin.
