A Christian officer in the British Navy claims he was evacuated off a nuclear submarine because of his moral concerns to the weapons.
Sub-Lieutenant Antonio Jardim claims he was banned from HMS Vanguard just days after being appointed there because of his objection to nuclear weapons on religious grounds.
He further alleges that the other submariners began calling him “Trigger” once he came clean about his past and that he lost his security clearance as a result.
On Wednesday, the officer testified at a preliminary hearing in Southampton, stating that he was transferred from HMS Vanguard to a shore base in Portsmouth. Exactly one year later, he decided to leave his position.
Jardim is suing the Department of Defense (DoD), citing religious discrimination.
Having considered his choices and spoken with his current (superior officer), he decided to quit the military because of the treatment he had got for making his moral opinions known, as reported by the Daily Mail.
I feel like I’ve been the victim of systemic religious discrimination.
“After considerable consideration and deep remorse, on March 18, 2021, I submitted a request for Voluntary Withdrawal From Training.”
On March 13, 2023, there will be a complete hearing.
The Defense Ministry denies the allegations.
