Suicide has definitely become an alarming trend these days among middle aged men across the world. More than ever before, we are beginning to experience the stories of more people who take their own lives out of depression and mental issues.
Pastors are often viewed in the society as some of the strongest people mentally, whose job is to guide their members in spiritual and sometimes mental matters.
Who would’ve thought that these “Strong Men” who we’re called by God also suffer from similar things they tend to help people get out of.
It may come as a surprise to most readers of this post, but there have been a large number of Pastors who have committed suicide and we’d take a look at some of them in this post today.
Without wasting anymore time, here’s a list of Pastors who have committed suicide.
1. Pastor Bassey
Pastor Bassey, a Lagos State Base’s man of God committed suicide in his home in the Dopemu area of Lagos State.
He killer himself right after he was accused by fellow church members of diverting church funds for personal use. He left a suicide note right before he used a knife to take his own life.
2. Jared Wilson
Mega church Pastor, Jared Wilson who was a seasoned minister and also a mental health advocate committed suicide in September, 2019.
He had started a nonprofit to help people struggling with depression, mental illness and suicidal thoughts.
He reportedly killed him self right after returning home from officiating at the burial of a member of his church, who also committed suicide.
3. Pastor Letsego
Popular South-African Pastor, Letsego of Christ Embassy, committed suicide in 2016.
The minister reportedly took his own life right after sending a photo of his private part to the Church’s WhatsApp group by mistake.
4. Pastor Peter
Pastor Peter, The founder and leader of Jesus Healing Prayer Camp at Kasoa Ofaakor Atopi Hill in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region took his life in June, 2020.
The minister reportedly committed suicide right after he caught his wife cheating on him. He was heartbroken and decided to end it all.
5. Pastor Isaac Hunter
Mega church Pastor, Joel Hunter of Northland Church lost his son, Pastor Joel Hunter who committed suicide.
Pastor Joel was a Pastor under his Father’s ministry and decided to take his own life.
6. Elijah Misiko
Elijah Misiko, a Kenyan assistant pastor with the Ground for God’s Gospel Church in Mombasa, during a church service, left his front-row seat and killed his wife.
The man of God right after stabbing his wife to death also took his own life.
7. Pastor Ed Montgomery
Pastor Ed Montgomery of the Full Gospel Christian Assemblies International Church committed suicide in the presence of his mother and son.
The Pastor was grieved over the loss of his Wife and decided to take his own life right in the presence of his mother and child as they pleaded to him not to.
8. Rev. Teddy Parker Jr
Pastor Teddy Parker of Bibb Mount Zion Baptist Church in Macon, Georgia in 2013 decided to take his own life while his church members were waiting for him to come deliver a sermon.
He shot himself to death in his own driveway.
9. Bryan Fulwider
Florida based Pastor Bryan Fulwider was accused of raping a child and was facing up to life imprisonment.
He decided to take his own life as he committed suicide in order to avoid shame and disgrace.
10. Darrin Patrick
Pastor Darrin Patrick of the Seacoast Church in Florida took his own life as he committed suicide.
He died of a self inflicted gunshot wound.
11. Jim Howard
Reallife Pastor, Jim Howard had a long struggle with mental illness.
In 2019, the minister took his own life by shooting him self.
12. Pastor Berry Dambaza
Reverend Berry Dambaza, a senior Zimbabwean pastor with Upper Room Ministries died in December, 2019.
The minister died after committing suicide by jumping from the third floor of Rezende Parkade in Harare.
He was reportedly having financial and infidelity issues.
