Don’t follow the trend of the world, it might be pleasurable but only for a season, I guarantee you – Faith Oyedepo Advises

MARTIN LUTHER TOOK A STAND THAT SHREDDED THE FABRICS OF EUROPE AND CHANGED THEOLOGY, POLITICS AND SOCIETY. HOWEVER, THIS GREAT REFORMER ATTESTED TO SPENDING HIS FIRST 3 HOURS DAILY IN PRAYERS.

THERE WILL BE NO MORE COMPULSORY CHAPEL ATTENDANCE AS YOU GRADUATE FROM THIS UNIVERSITY BUT YOUR SPIRITUALITY IS KEY TO BECOMING A CHANGE AGENT.

FOCUS ON CHANGING A SLICE OF THE WORLD, NO MATTER HOW SMALL. IF YOU FEEL A SENSE OF DISSATISFACTION WITH THE STATUS QUO, DON’T KEEP WATCHING IT.
YOUR COURSE OF STUDY MAY NOT NECESSARILY BE A POINTER TO YOUR DESTINY.

DON’T FOLLOW THE TREND OF THE WORLD, IT MIGHT BE PLEASURABLE BUT IT IS ONLY FOR A SEASON

  • Pastor (Mrs) Faith Oyedepo
    Pro-Chancellor, Landmark University

The Chancellor Sir, all other protocols duly observed. It is with a heart of gratitude to God that I specially welcome you all to the 8th Convocation Ceremony of this great institution, the Landmark University. WE are most grateful to God for the outstanding testimonies and great feat from both staff and students since inception. Without any doubt, we can boldly say that we have been marvellously helped by God. Within just 12 years of establishment, Landmark University has carved a niche for itself among the committee of Universities in Nigeria to the glory of God and to Him alone be all the glory.

I have captioned my speech today:
ENGAGING THE REFORMER’S MINDSET
By way of introduction, the founding philosophy of this University establishes the needed departure from traditional concept of learning as espoused by the following lines:
-A departure from form to skill.
-A departure from knowledge to empowerment
-A departure from figures to future building.
-A departure from legalism to realism.
-A departure from points to facts.
-A departure from ‘mathematics’ to ‘life-matics’

The objective of our training modules is to raise our students to become agents of change and reformers to their generation through our life transforming, customized built programmes such as the: The Total Man Concept (TMC); Agricpreneurship: Towards a Total Graduate (TTG) among others.
All this put together is what informed the christening of our graduands as pathfinders. The quality of our system is reflected not only in the number of graduating students present here today, but also in the testimonies of thousands of them that are already there in various industries, corporate organizations, entrepreneurship and the list goes on. We have the assurance that as we continue to improve on the quality of our delivery, the world will soon learn from the wisdom of God at work in this place.

Here is my charge to the graduands of today. Your journey in Landmark University has been a mix of academic learning and training to secure a most impactful and fulfilling life. Life indeed is a journey and the completion of your degree today is just an end of one phase that should usher you to the next level of breakthrough in this journey.
-And you will get there in Jesus name.
It is my earnest prayer that this transition will actually usher you into a new realm which will ultimately result in the fulfillment of your great and glorious destiny.

Today, reformers are more needed in our world than at any other time in history. For example, one man by name Martin Luther took a stand that literally shredded the fabrics of Europe. It changed theology, politics and society. However, to be the change agent the world is waiting for, especially in this age and time, just like David in the Bible picked 5 smooth stones to bring down the head of Goliath, let me list these 5 Biblical smooth stones and with them, every Goliath on your path shall be supernaturally brought down in Jesus name.

Stone number 1: Discover where you belong
You can’t be a reformer or pathfinder without first discovering destiny. Your place in destiny is your place of dominion and distinction. Only men and women who occupy their place in destiny become distinguished in life. In the Bible, we see several examples of men and women such as Moses, Abraham, Joseph, Apostle Paul, Nehemiah, Esther, Deborah and the list goes on. All found their place in destiny, no wonder they excelled and made distinctive marks in life. Think of the big names you have heard in Business, Education, Ministry et cetera, they are men and women walking in destiny.
It is in your place in destiny, you find all the right relationships, opportunities and blessings God has prepared for you. Your course of study, you must understand, may not necessarily be a pointer to your destiny. So it is very critical for you to discover if you have not yet done so what you are destined for and walk in it.
-None of you will miss your destiny in Jesus name.

Stone number 2: Remain spiritually minded
Romans chapter 8 verse 6 tells us very clearly, “for to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”
Spirituality should be a lifestyle and not something you do for a season. This is one of our core values here, at Landmark University. To be a true reformer:
-Don’t assume your spirituality. Rather develop and keep working it out.
After you leave Landmark, no more compulsory Chapel attendance. However, listen very carefully, your spirituality is key to becoming the change agent you are destined to be. Again Martin Luther, a great reformer, attested to spending his first 3 hours daily in prayers. John D Rockefeller, Michael Faraday, R.G LeTourneau et cetera were definite agents of change in their respective fields of endeavours.

Remember, Joseph in the Bible, his spirituality led him to the throne at a young age. Remember, we referenced him last night in our message. He had to run for his life to ensure he didn’t lose his destiny.
Job in the Bible eschewed evil and became the greatest businessman of his days.
Therefore, you must always remember that spirituality engenders the fear of God in us, empowering us to keep God’s commandment and walk in integrity. Don’t follow the trend of the world, it might be pleasurable but only for a season, I guarantee you.
However, your following God genuinely will lead to a most fruitful life, both in the now and eternity.

Stone number 3: Pursue Excellence
Excellence is not an attainment, but an adventure. It is something you continually improve and it is gotten through hard work. Your glorious tomorrow is a function of the level of work you put in today. The Bible says very clearly, “seest thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men” – Proverbs 22:29.
In the words of the Chancellor of Landmark University, Dr David Oyedepo and I quote, “There is nothing in doing nothing. Nothing works without someone at work. Only hard workers become highflyers. The only substitute for hard work is a hard life. No one can get out of life beyond what he or she is willing to put into it.”
-None of you will end up in a hard life in Jesus name.
A colourful and enviable future awaits anyone who puts today to work. Therefore, go and put it to work.

Stone number 4: Reformation begins with one’s self
No one can give what he or she does not have. To be a true reformer, reform must begin with you. You are called kings and queens, therefore, believe it and walk in the light of the same.
You should let your change attitude, disposition and character attract others to want to follow you. Remember, the world will always stand still for he who knows where he is going.
Don’t get lost in the crowd. Rather, be a worthy example for others to follow and to emulate.
Let the testimony of this Commission that birthed this great institution, Landmark University inspire you to pursue after excellence. Focus on changing a slice of the world, no matter how small.
If you feel a sense of dissatisfaction with the status quo, don’t keep watching. Rather nurture that dissatisfaction, be propelled by it, act and get into the system with a mission to effect a change.
-And the God of this Commission will back you up as you do so.

Stone number 5: Maintain an attitude of thanksgiving
In all things and for all things, we are commanded to give thanks. This is the only way upwards in life. Every great result is rooted in God and it is His grace that defines man’s limit in life.
As the Chancellor says, “To take God for granted is to be grounded in life.”
-You shall not be grounded.
Gratitude defines one’s altitude in life. So be grateful for every stage you get to in life.
David in the Bible was a man of tireless gratitude, no wonder he enjoyed divine lifting all the way.
Paul the Apostle, lived a life of gratitude and occupied a most honourable place in destiny.
For every level of progress that you attain, always lay it to heart, not just by your word of mouth, but lay it to heart to give quality thanks to God and of course to everyone that God puts on the path of your destiny which includes your parents and your guardians.
When you thank God for every stage you are in, you are set for the next.
Therefore, make thanksgiving your new way of life and it will help stay more dependent on God and attract His multiplication to you.

In conclusion, I believe all our graduating students have gone through our life transforming training platform in this University and are fully set to take the world by storm.
Again, congratulations to all graduands of today.
-I wish you a most impactful adventure in your various endeavours in life.
-I will miss you all. However, the sky is not your limit and definitely we shall all meet at the top.
