Dr. Pastor Paul Enenche- How he overcame death 10 times

If his life were not important in the eyes of God, his story would have ended before he was born. When his mother bled profusely at six weeks pregnant, doctors told her she had suffered a miscarriage. But the hand of God wrought a divine intervention.

The woman bled but the pregnancy stayed––a contradiction to medical logic.

At birth, life conspired to make his entry into the world a difficult one. Imagine the agony of a woman in labour sent back home by the midwives who told her she was not yet due, only to find herself alone at the hour of birth.

Without help, she delivered her baby on the bare floor, removed the placenta and cut the umbilical cord by herself––at the risk of exposure to lethal diseases such as tetanus, diphtheria and tuberculosis. That was the circumstances of his birth.

As a one-year-old, he was afflicted with febrile convulsion, with each attack leaving him knocking on death’s door. And each time, God worked his deliverance. As a 10-year-old, a drunkard snatched him and took him to the middle of a busy road; for a few suicidal minutes, the lunatic dangled the child in an exhibition of senseless devilry while death rushed past them on speeding steels.

Anyone who still doubts that he is one of God’s “Special Ones” only has to look at the number of times he had walked through the valley of the shadow of death unscathed––ten close shaves with death; 10 times a survivor.

Indeed, he is a story of survival and triumph. And his life is a testament to the prophetic declaration of God in the Good Book––“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations” seems to have been directed at him. (Book of Jeremiah 1: 5, NKJV).

This is the story of Dr Paul Idoko Enenche, 53, founder and senior pastor, Dunamis International Gospel Centre.

Born on June 4, 1968, in Otukpo, the capital city of the Idoma nation in Benue State, Nigeria, Dr Paul Idoko Enenche is the scion of HRH Chief D.E. Enenche and his wife, Titi Hannah Enenche. He is the family’s fifth child and the second son of his mother.

An indigene of Orokam in Ogbadibo Local Government Area, he grew under the watchful eye of a mother who exemplified deep spirituality and reverence for God. Although the Enenches were a well-to-do family owning a transport business of lorries and luxury buses, his mother raised her children to become self-reliant and to always strive for personal greatness.

This was evident in the way she religiously woke her children for morning devotion every day, laying hands on each head and diligently prayed for them. She taught them to look unto God and to lean on Him always.

He was educated at St. Francis Primary School, Otukpo (1975––1980), Wesley High School, Otukpo, School of Basic Studies, Makurdi and the University of Jos, where he was trained as a medical doctor. He met his wife, Becky Ibu, in the medical school.

Subsequently, the doctors, Paul Enenche and his nursing wife, Becky both dropped their lucrative medical jobs. They relocated to Abuja. Dunamis International Gospel Centre was birthed that Sunday morning at the Abuja center for Arts and Culture, Garki, Area 10, Abuja.

After two Sundays of worship, Dunamis moved to the Sheraton Hotel banquet hall where it held its service for the next six months. Eventually, the ministry acquired its land in Area 1 where its first edifice, erected within six weeks, was rebuilt in subsequent years to accommodate the exponential expansion of the congregation. In no time, the church started running three Sunday services in its Area 1 headquarters.

The Church also planted Harvest Centers in the FCT, and state branches around the country. Currently, there are close to a hundred harvest centers in the FCT and several branches in the country and beyond its shores.

As God’s glory and greatness continued to manifest, the church experienced a surge in membership, which consequently led to the running of six power-packed services every Sunday. Pastor Enenche preached in all the services. The fire-splitting preacher has not been absent from the Dunamis Church in the last two decades years of ministry.

Every Sunday and in every service, the Dunamis congregation encounters the tangible presence of God, as the man of God waters their souls with the living word in an atmosphere of excitable praise and worship.

A highly gifted musician, he receives and writes hymns and spiritual songs––tunes, melodies and lyrics––directly from the Lord. In the last two and half years, on every Sunday service, he provided a new song received and/or written by him which the choir and the church sing to the Lord. So great is his passion for worship that he devoted 10 years to learn how to play the saxophone which he now excitingly worships God with.
