Elvis Presley’s Stepbrother Reveals His Bible Habits, Generosity, and Faith in his new book

In his new book, “The Faith of Elvis Presley,” the singer’s stepbrother discusses Elvis’ devotion to the Bible, his philanthropy, and his firm faith in God.

Before his tragic death in 1977 at the age of 42, Elvis Presley became a worldwide phenomenon.

Billy Stanley, Elvis Presley’s stepbrother, is on a mission to throw light on another aspect of his life that gets considerably less attention: his religion, despite the fact that the world applauded “The King of Rock and Roll” for his musical skills.

Stanley sat down with CBN’s Faithwire to discuss the new book, The Faith of Elvis: A Story Only a Brother Can Tell, and provide some fascinating insights on Elvis’s faith and life.

The Religious World of Elvis Presley

According to Stanley, “he was a Christian and most people don’t know that.” He was a Bible-carrying Christian, that’s what I mean by saying ‘Christian.’ He always had a Bible in his bag, no matter where he traveled.

Stanley, an Elvis roadie, was responsible for transporting the singer’s Bible, and on several occasions saw his stepbrother kneeling in prayer.

He said that Bible reading was a daily ritual for him.

No one, not even someone as famous and ingrained in popular culture as Elvis, was immune to the difficulties that come with being famous. The musician was the subject of several news articles, and he seemed to face many of the challenges that come with celebrity.

No one can really comprehend Elvis’ predicament.

Stanley said, “Here you have a guy who significantly altered cultural norms. You know, I’ve always assumed… There was a continual struggle going on in his mind between the devil on one side and God on the other.

He elaborated, saying, “[Elvis] tried his best…”

God was always the first place he went to when he was having problems.

His stepsibling, according to Stanley, often beseeched “God’s compassion,” pardon, and wisdom.

A “Generous Giver,” That’s What Elvis Is.

The rock star’s life also included an abundance of kindness that sometimes shocked and even moved Stanley to tears.

He gave money, vehicles, and houses to individuals he didn’t even know, making him “the most generous donor I’ve ever encountered in my life,” he claimed.

In his mind, Stanley will always have the moment he and Elvis were in a car together, touring Memphis. As they walked by a homeless guy, the two struck up a conversation. When Elvis saw that the guy was in need of money, he abruptly turned around and instructed Stanley to get his wallet.

He described Elvis’s pocketbook as “so thick you couldn’t bend it.” That’s when I asked, “How much [money]?” He said, “Everything.”

The destitute guy, who had identified Elvis, received money from the superstar. The guy on the street informed Elvis he was a huge admirer, and the singer said the money was his way of saying thanks for the man’s time spent enjoying his films and music.

After recalling the heartwarming moment, Stanley found himself wiping away tears.

Some of my feelings about this have not completely dried up. Even when we were about to leave. In response to the man who wished Elvis Presley “God bless you, Mr. Presley,” Elvis glanced at the man and answered, “Sir, he already has.” It was then that Stanley reflected. “This kindness has me bawling my eyes out,” she sobbed.

Later, he recounted Elvis’s act of kindness toward a mother and her children after their Christmas house burnt down and they were able to escape the flames but lost all they had.

Stanley explains that the boss sent one of his employees to find an apartment, pay for six months’ rent, equip it, and provide it with necessities like toys and clothing. If she ever inquired as to who was responsible, “He gave me specific orders to inform her that Santa Claus had done it.” He was embarrassed to be associated with it.

Elvis Presley’s life was cut tragically short.

The Tragic Impact of Elvis’s Death

Even though millions of people were saddened by Elvis’s untimely death from heart failure, the impact on Stanley was even more profound. Stanley had left his stepbrother’s position because he felt he needed to “make it on his own.”

He was deeply affected by the news, saying, “I never could have envisioned [that].” There was never a doubt in my mind that he would outlast me. I just didn’t consider it. I didn’t know how to cope with my grief at the moment, so I resorted to booze and drugs.

Stanley spoke on a profound lucid dream he experienced after Elvis’s death, which he believed to be the catalyst for his decision to become sober.

“In a dream I had, I was chatting to Elvis. I remember asking, “What does it feel like to be dead?” It was then that Stanley reflected. “He gave me a hard stare and said, ‘Don’t you know?'”

The next day, Stanley says he woke up in a cold sweat and checked himself into a clinic.

I got…clean and sober in 1987; he stated.

Also, Stanley recalled their last discussion together, which took place only two days before the singer’s death. Elvis was helping his stepbrother treat a small wound in the bathroom when the two had an emotional moment in front of the mirror.

“Do you think God forgives us for all our sins?” he asks. “I responded with a positive,” Stanley said. I was caught off guard by his inquiry. ‘Yes, we’ve read about that many times,’ I said, ‘and you’ve told me too, and this is what I’ve learnt in church. Good, he said. It’s important to me that you understand that.

The two brothers then got to talking about their hopes and aspirations for the future, with Elvis offering Stanley some words of encouragement.

To paraphrase what Stanley said, “He said, ‘One day, Billy, you’re going to fall in love with a lady [and she will] simply go and transform your entire life. Everything he predicted would happen that day did.

According to Stanley, his forthcoming book, “The Beliefs of Elvis: A Story Only a Brother Can Tell,” will provide fresh light on Elvis’s life and faith. More than anything else, however, he hopes that it will lead them to a personal faith in Jesus.

A connection with God is something he hopes people would pursue after learning that the most renowned performer of all time has one.
