“God told me to start to draw a figure of a man on the ground, then something trembling happened” — Pastor E A Adeboye

God is a merciful God as much as a fierce God that could destroy anything, within a blink of an eye of His “mercifulness”. This statement could sound ambiguous but, the fact remains that, with the same eyes that God does behold the people He has created mercifully, He could also fiercely look onto anyone to reprimand or to utterly destroy. There are several instances from the word of God where God has mercifully delivered His people from trouble, and at the same time, He has also drawn them into trouble, as a result of His and punishment for them.

In serving God, a believer is expected to understand the ways of God and to know how to live by them. This God Himself, want every heaven-bound Christian to always abide by everything that pertains to pleasing Him always. It is through this that their true service and genuineness with God would be actualized. God does not respect inconsistency in human service to Him. He wants all believers that are genuinely associated with Him to come to Him in humility, selflessness and consecration to fulfilling His will. In the light of this, Pastor EA Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian church of God during his ministrations at February 2022 thanksgiving service, has revisited a particular happening that transpired between God and him back in 1998, after the famous Lekki crusade that shook the entire nation. The cleric through that encounter with God thus learnt the fact that the higher any believer goes or advances in life, the more careful s/he must be in the areas of humility before God.

The cleric continues that, after the crusade, he was at the redemption camp. The place was not as developed as its present state now. He said he was praising God and worshipping Him for the wondrous miracles performed during the crusade. Suddenly at around 2-3 am, he heard God instruct him to bend down. He said he quickly obeyed because, then, the camp used to be a place, renowned for evil activities of the Underworld, involving witchcraft and occult practices, he thought maybe it was some of them that were flying over him. But God told him to start to draw a figure of a man. There he started to tremble, knowing well that God wanted to pass across a very serious message.

The cleric continued that, in his words of what God told him, “Son, you are thanking me for what I have done if you ever forget who is in charge, nobody will even remember that you ever came into this world”. Since then, he has ever been humble. Upon this, people would make comments about his humility and he had severally answered them concerning the incident that, he does not want to be wiped out by God. To maintain any topmost position in life, one must be humble. God respects a humble person, and would ever regard the meek, at all times. But, those that have taken over the place of God and had puffed up in their pride shall witness that calamity that befell King Saul. He fell mindless of how God took him from nothing and made him king. He forgot God and God relegated him to nothing
