Governor Ortom takes part in a prayer pilgrimage for world peace.

The Prayer Pilgrimage for Peace in Tiv Land and Benue State was held at St. John’s Cathedral in Gboko on December 27, 2022, and was organized by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Gboko, Most Rev. Dr. Williams Avenya. The Executive Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, participated.

The Governor, who was represented by his Health Commissioner, Dr. Joseph Ngbea, praised the Church for consistently hosting the annual pilgrimage to pray for peace to reign in the land and added that, among other things, the Church’s persistent prayers have had a significant impact on peace and security in the State.

In important sectors including health, education, rural development, entrepreneurship, and entertainment, the Catholic Church has significantly benefited humanity. The governor acknowledged this and pledged the support of his government to the church.

The Catholic Bishop of Katsina-Ala Diocese, Most Reverend Isaac Bunde Dugu, officiated at the mass, which was attended by His Royal Majesty, Orchivirigh Professor James Ayatse, first-class, second-class, and third-class traditional rulers, as well as many others.

The releasing of pigeons as a symbol of peace by the Tor Tiv, the governor’s envoy, the imam, and the bishop was the highlight of the mass.
