Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God spoke to parents in the church about why they need to teach their children all they need to know about obsession.
the man of God said that when he was younger, a neighbour gave him a bowl of food in appreciation for always giving her son his textbooks of previous classes each time he moved into a higher class. Before then, his mother’s instruction had been that he keeps any edible thing anyone gives to him till she returns.
So, he put the food by the kitchen corner and ran off to play with his friends. He totally forgot about the food. The following morning, the food had turned to charcoal, so he told his mother how he got it. However, when the woman was confronted by his mother, she said she was jealous that he was doing well in school while her son wasn’t. “If I had an obsession for food, I would have eaten that food and died,” he said.
Speaking further, he advised parents to teach their children all they need to know about obsession. He said that Obsession is an unreasonably strong and continuous interest in something/someone which prevents you from thinking about anything else. He said that one thing some children are obsessed with is food. For example, Esau was so obsessed with food that when he was famished, he relinquished his birthright to his younger brother for a meal. The truth is, if he drank only water for two days, he wouldn’t die of hunger.
