How to Apply for Spina Bifida Scholarships in 2022

Spina Bifida Association

Spina bifida is a disorder of the spine that leaves most sufferers dependent on a wheelchair and with limited mobility. The Spina Bifida Association offers one of the few scholarship options designed exclusively for individuals with this condition. Students must obtain a disability certification from their doctor and already be admitted to a four-year college, trade school, or business school in order to be eligible for the Spina Bifida Association Scholarship. Even though each scholarship is only given out for a single year, students can still submit applications as long as they are presently enrolled in school. When evaluating applications, the scholarship committee will take into account applicants’ financial need, academic performance, leadership potential, and volunteerism. For those who have spina bifida of any kind, the Spina Bifida Association is the premier source of services and other information.

Research

We advocate for research to improve the lives of people living with Spina Bifida. This advocacy has yielded the National Spina Bifida Patient Registry (NSBPR) and the Urologic Protocol for Young Children with Spina Bifida both housed at Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

In collaboration with nearly 100 health care professionals around the world, SBA facilitated an update of Guidelines for the Care of People Living with Spina Bifida. This process included the identification of research gaps that will be prioritized by the SB community.
