How Woli Agba and His Stage Son, Dele Transitioned Into Popular Comedians in Nigeria

Unlike many of the popular comedian faces Nigerians are used to in 2021, Woli Agba and his comedy group did not have it easy getting into the entertainment industry. The story started many years ago, in 2002 when Woli Agba first started his career in comedy but was following the trending concepts then, which was dance group comedies.

This was when Woli Agba released popular comic dance videos such as ‘UnlimitedGrace’, ‘Alfa Sule’ and ‘Oti Gan Pa’, which were quite popular in those days because they approached comedy differently by mixing songs with dance steps, comedy, and gospel preachings. But this was not enough to launch the career Woli Agba envisioned for himself.

The lack of social media was the major cause of that because the only way to get their videos across was to make cassette disks for sale, which is often pirated in those days. During his career, he picked up his oap (on-air personality), Tunde Bolumole who is popularly known as Dele Omo Woli.

Together the two continued to create content related to the dance choreography until they started evolving into Woli Agba Productions. This version of the company no longer made dance videos because those were out of date, so they started a church movement focusing on Dele as a choir and Woli Agba as the pastor.

Now armed with a better concept and social media at their fingertips, the duo began to gain popularity in no time, featuring various other comedians in their skits and also hosting lots of comedy shows. 

Woli Agba and Dele have now managed to preach their gospel to almost every part of Nigeria, with over 3 million followers on Instagram and an active YouTube income generation channel. Woli Agba and his group are also hired as MCs for various events.

Thus, from gospel and comic dance groups struggling to grasp the fibers of the entertainment industry, Woli Agba and Dele created an empire for themselves through the evolution of their comedic concepts and adaption of social media to become one of the most popular comedians in the country.
