Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, the General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church spoke to his members about the need for married couples to love each other.
He read the book of Hebrews 13:4 which says, “Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.” He said that marriage is honourable in young people; marriage is honourable in middle-aged people; marriage is honourable in even marriageable widows and widowers everywhere and every time.
According to him, there is no day we open our newspaper and we will not see one form of matrimonial cruelty or the other and that is damnable in all. He said that if we are living together as husband and wife and yet the purpose of the marriage is not yet fulfilled in the sight of God. There is cruelty, violence, infidelity, deception, hatred, and neglect.
He said that when we neglect the other person, and perhaps the husband is not providing money to feed the wife and kids, it is damnable unto God. When you don’t do to your partner what you want him or her to do to you, it is wickedness. He then advised that husbands love their wives as Christ also loves the church. It is the love that gives, forgives, and thinks of the good of the other person. It is the love that is selfless, and sacrificial even as Christ loved the church and gave himself for it. (Ephesians 2:25).
