Against all odds, a Deeper Life Bible Church pastor identified as Matthew Jegede was crowned a king in Ekiti state.

The head who wears the crown has opened up on some challenges he faced on the road to becoming a king in Ekiti state.

He faced a battle with himself and the church

King Matthew told BBC News Yoruba in an interview that his church people were not in support when the talk of him taking the kingship came up.

He also personally had reservations about it as he had thought that becoming a king as a Christian was against God’s plan.

“I initially thought it was against God’s plan to become the King …I also thought that if one wants to go to heaven, it will be difficult, he said.”

According to him, the church told him to pray about it. He first ignored their directive before committing to it.

Matthew said he kept having king-like dreams, a confirmation that he was born to be the king.

And after running away from the kingship for 10 years, he accepted it not minding his church members’ sentiment that was against it.

But to his surprise on the day Governor Fayemi handed him the staff of office, the same former church members who knocked him for deciding to be a king graced the occasion.

How Deeper Life pastor emerged a traditional ruler-elect in Benue state

Meanwhile, it was previously reported that a Deeper Life pastor had become a traditional ruler-elect.

The 52-year-old was on Thursday, December 30, 2021 presented by the Idoma traditional council as the Och’Idoma-elect to Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom, at the government house in Makurdi.

Odogbo, who hails from Agatu local government area of Benue state emerged as the 5th paramount ruler of the Idoma nation following the death of His Royal Highness Elias Ikoyi Obekpa joined his ancestors back in October 2021.
