At the book launch of KUMUYI, THE DEFENDER OF THE FAITH, Pastor W.F Kumuyi, the General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, made a special statement.
He revealed that when he was a young Anglican and he was to be christened, his father asked him what christian name he would love to bear. He said he would love to bear the name Johnson. “There was a Johnson in our community who was very vocal, fervent, bold and courageous and I have learnt to appreciate him,” he revealed.
He then revealed that It was agreed that he would be Johnson. And then they got to the church and the ceremony was being preformed and the minister said “he shall be called William”. “I wondered why I had to bear that name,” he said.
The man of God then explained that It wasn’t many years later after he got converted in 1964 and he became a Preacher, traveling Teacher and Evangelist. He said that they got to a meeting in Singapore and a minister of God, who had studied the meanings of names and for one reason or the other had checked the root and etymology of his name.
Finally, he revealed that the minister told him that his name means “THE DEFENDER OF THE FAITH” and that what he has done there in Singapore was prophetic. The man of God then revealed that the minister prayed along with him and since that time he has been more conscious of the fact that God called him.
