If you want to go to heaven, you cannot always fight for your right. – Mike Bamiloye

People hurt other people, and some just like to take advantage of others. In situations like that what do you do? Do you fight for your rights, or do you let it go?

Mike Bamiloye, the president of the Mount Zion Films, has said that if you want to go to heaven, you cannot always fight for your right. You have to let some things go to maintain your spirituality.

I see his point here. Offenses will surely come, and people will surely hurt you; but sometimes, you might have to let them go. The life of a Christian is a life of constantly making sacrifices. We always have to deny our flesh, so that the Holy Spirit in our lives can have his way. One thing we might have to sacrifice is our desire to fight for our rights.

There is no telling the kind of impact your decision not to fight for something that rightly belongs to you might have on the other person. The eternal destiny of your neighbor is much more important than flimsy earthly things that will pass away eventually. What if the person decides to come to Christ just because of your decision to make the sacrifice?

Look at Abraham for example: when his herdsmen and Lot’s herdsmen had issues, he didn’t start fighting for his rights and chasing Lot away. Rather, he sacrificed his right as the elder to have the first choice so that there would be peace.

This does not mean you should allow yourself to be a doormat to be stepped on by everyone just because you want to make heaven. Jesus warned us to be both wise as serpents and gentle as doves. Use the wisdom the Lord has given you to know when to stand up for what belongs to you and when to let go. Be blessed.
