Pastor David Ibiyeomie, the founder and senior pastor of Salvation Ministries spoke to his members at Church Growth Conference, 2022, Morning Session, Day Two.
According to Church Gist, he said that he was given the theme ‘Built to Last’ but the subtopic given to h8m was ‘Understanding the Primary Task of a Pastor’. He said that when you talk about a pastor, it does not necessarily mean you are a pastor, no matter your title you are a shepherd. The task you accomplish is superior to the title you bear. He said that your pastoral title is not as important as your pastoral function. Understanding your function is what determines optimum performance. Unction flows when function is known and understood. When placement is known and understood, achievement becomes easy.
The question is Who is a Pastor? According to him, a Pastor is a Shepherd called by God to nourish God’s people with the word and engage them practically to ensure their maturity. So you must understand your role as a pastor. Understanding is the ability to see life as God sees it. He said that feeding the flock is your number one assignment as a Pastor.
According to him, it is the word that turns a small church into a mega Church. When you get into the word, the word will get into you. It is the light you have that can illuminate their own lives. It is the word that is in you that will make them also have their own word. You must know the state of your flock to attend to them accordingly.
For example, if you are in Ukraine right now and you are preaching something other than protection nobody will listen to you. You must know their state. “During the COVID-19 pandemic, when some were closing churches, in one month we had 56,000 souls who did foundation class online and the Church grew. God said to me to teach the foundation class online and it worked,” he said.
Finally, he said that to feed the flock, you, the Pastor, must be a reader. If you are not a reader there is nothing you have to feed them.
