It Is Not The Duty Of A Pastor To Join People As Husband And Wife – Pastor Abel Damina

Senior Pastor Abel Damina has released another teaching on the issue of marriage. The pastor, during his recent bible teaching programme on marriage, explained that pastors or other men of God have little or no responsibility when it comes to the issue of marriage. According Dr Damina, marriage is solely the business of the couples involved and the consent of their parents.

Damina emphasized that it is not the role or work of a pastor to join people as husband and wife. Hence, the misconception should be corrected because pastors are just like other witnesses to couples who decide to celebrate and unify their love for each other publicly in church.

“Joining people as husband and wife is not the pastor’s job. He can only assist the couples in prayers, and guide them through counseling for a better knowledge and understanding of what marriage demands. This, of course should only be done by an experienced pastor.” The pastor stressed.

Pastor Damina also explained that marriage is not an occasion or an event which just occurred one day in a church. Marriage, according to him, is a lifetime covenant which takes place at home between the couples involved for the rest days of their lives.

“Real marriage is not done in church , but at home. When you celebrate in church, you are only telling people that you have gotten into marriage or that you are about to venture into marriage. The real marriage begins the moment you go home with your spouse after deciding to live together as couples. That your wedding ceremony was successful does not mean that your marriage will be successful. For a successful marriage at home, you need love, tolerance, endurance, cooperation and understanding between both of you.”

In his earlier teaching, Pastor Damina had also explained that marriage is not compulsory for everyone. According to him, no one should be disturbed or worried if it happens that he or she remains single for the rest Hof his or her life. Instead, the person should focus on doing the will of God and building his life.
