Many churches in Nigeria have always distanced themselves from Nigerian politics and discouraged their members from running for political office with the belief that it can corrupt honest people.
There was a circular reportedly emanating from the Redeemed Christian Church of God stating that the mission has created the Office of Directorate of Politics and Governance, which will assist and mobilize support for their members who are willing to be involved in politics.
In light of this, Joe Igbokwe took to his Facebook page and stated that if the information in the circular is true, then it is a welcome development.
It should be noted that the current Vice President is a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God and the first known pastor to have occupied such a position in the history of Nigeria’s democracy.
The Redeemed Church is one of Nigeria’s largest churches in terms of membership. What is your take on the church creating a department to mobilise support for their members who are willing to enter into Nigeria’s politics?
