People have complained about Christianity in Nigeria since the rise of mega churches here. Just go on social media, and you will hear stories of bad experiences people have had with certain churches or with certain people in the church. These experiences have made some people to give up on going to church entirely.
Joshua Mike-Bamiloye has blasted people who criticize the state of Christianity in Nigeria. He sent a tweet that warned them that if all they do is look around for things that confirm their unfavorable view of Christianity, they’ll never grow.
God ordained the church as a institution where his children can receive discipleship and growth. That’s why he commanded us not to forsake the gathering of the brethren.
I agree that the church in Nigeria has a lot of flaws. We are far from perfect. But if you keep focusing on the wrong things that happen in church, you will feel discouraged and it will affect your own spiritual growth.
This does not mean we should ignore the obvious wrongs we see. We should still call out the evils that happen in churches, but we should do it with the motive of bringing change and growth to the body of Christ.
What are your thoughts? Are there things you have seen in Nigerian churches that have discouraged you from going to church? Share your thoughts in the comments. Be blessed.
