Kanye West’s Jesus Is King debuts at No. 1

As polarizing as Kanye West might be, his albums tend to always find their way to the top of the charts, according to Billboard. His latest offering, Jesus Is King, is officially the rapper’s ninth album to debut at the top of the Billboard 200 chart, netting 264,000 equivalent album units, of which 109,000 were pure album sales.

After multiple delays, weekly Sunday Services and experiences around the country and coinciding with the release of an IMAX documentary, Jesus Is King saw the rapper fully commit to a gospel sound, one he claims he will stick with going forward and leave “secular music” behind completely. While West mentioned he’d be starting a tour in support of the album “right away,” it’s possible that will also be hemmed up by the same perfectionist delays of the album.
