King Charles III’s first national address focuses on his “deeply rooted” Christian faith

In his first address to the nation, King Charles III gives a speech in which he discusses the “deeply rooted” Christian faith that he has.

In his first speech to the country as monarch after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles III talked on his duty to the Church of England and his own personal faith.

After his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, passes away on Thursday, September 8, 2022, King Charles III will make a public statement to the United Kingdom and the world on Friday, September 9, 2022.


There were 2,000 individuals, including Prime Minister Liz Truss, who watched the talk live on enormous screens set up in St. Paul’s Cathedral for a time of prayer and thought.

King Charles, as the new king of Britain, takes on the responsibilities of both Supreme Governor of the Church of England and Defender of the Faith.

King Charles III said that his “deeply entrenched” religion came from the Church of England and that it had instilled in him a “cherish a feeling of obligation to others.”

“The function and the obligations of monarchy nonetheless continue, as does the sovereign’s special connection and duty toward the Church of England—the Church in which my personal faith is so firmly entrenched,” the King remarked.

“In that religion, and the principles it inspires, I have been brought up to cherish a feeling of responsibility to others, and to hold in the highest reverence the valuable traditions, liberties, and obligations of our one-of-a-kind past and our system of parliamentary governance.

“As the queen herself did with such unflinching dedication, I now solemnly commit myself, for the time God permits me to live, to safeguard the constitutional ideals at the core of our country,” he said.

Earlier in his speech, the monarch had praised the contributions of his “darling mom” who had served the United Kingdom and Commonwealth for 70 years.

The qualities that make our country great—a deep appreciation for history and a willingness to welcome change—were on full display throughout her career. He said, “The love, awe, and respect she engendered became a defining feature of her rule.”

Everyone in my family can attest to the fact that she also had a genuine personality, a great sense of humor, and an uncanny knack for always seeing the best in people.

“I celebrate the life and legacy of my selfless mother. I know that many of you are profoundly saddened by her passing, and I want you to know that I feel that loss, too.

After paying tribute to his late father, Prince Philip, and quoting Shakespeare’s Hamlet, he pledged to serve the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms, and the Commonwealth “with loyalty, respect, and love.”

As his mother prepared to join his father in death, he told her, “I want just to say this: thank you.”

“I appreciate your years of service to our country and to our family of countries, and I thank you for the love and dedication you have shown to both. ‘May flights of Angels sing thee to thy slumber.’
