Limoblaze is the stage name of Samuel Imo Owobuiko, an urban gospel, afropop, afrobeat, and rap artist and songwriter. He is a native of Nigeria’s Bende Local Government in the Abia State and was born on October 25, 1995. He was raised in Makurdi, Benue state, together with his seven siblings, where he was born to Samuel and Nkechi Onwubiko. When he began singing in the church’s children’s choir at the early age of 8, he first became aware of his musical prowess. At the Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi in Nigeria, he pursued a degree in biochemistry.

He discovered and fell in love with rap music by Tupac and Eminem in his early adolescent years. He gradually continued to grow as a person and write his own lyrics as he got older. After years of this routine, he gained notoriety as a lyricist in school and the moniker “microphone 1da boy,” later shortened to “1daboyofficial.” He had no prior knowledge of Christian rap and only ever rapped about other topics like money, cars, celebrity, etc. The music of Christian rappers like Lecrae, The Ambassador, Andy Mineo, Da TRUTH, Tedashi, Sho Baraka, swoope, Pro, and many more gradually caught his attention. Through these influences, he was able to perfect his own sound and decided to pursue a career as an Afrogospel and Afrobeat artist because he felt filled with the spirit of God in these Christian rap songs, as opposed to the emptiness he always experienced after listening to and writing secular songs. While serving at Pastor Sam Adeyemi’s Daystar Church throughout his time in college, his love for God likewise progressively increased.

He started his musical career as an independent recording artiste in 2012 and has been active since then till date. His first song was titled “Memories” which he wrote and dedicated to his classmates after graduating from High School. He has a unique and versatile style and is known for explicitly fusing his Christian faith into his music. He has so far managed to make a mark in the Gospel music scene with his heartfelt lyrics and message driven songs. He recorded other songs like “Amazing Grace”, “Mercy”, “Unconditional Love”, “Wrong Ways”, “Grace Talk (intro)”, “Pain”, “Misfit”, “For the King” which features an American rapper Los of hga and “So Far Gone”. Also to his credit are a couple of collaborations and freestyle sessions with artists such as Ada Ehi, Travis Greene, Da Truth and so on.

His debut album “Blind” was published in 2016, “Before Now,” his second album, was released in 2018, and “Afrobeats Raps & Jesus,” which was released in 2019, came out in 2019. He released The Wait EP in 2020, then on November 20, 2020, he dropped Bridges, his fourth studio album with Da T.R.U.T.H, which became a local and global hit.

He finished as the second runner up in the Bouqui Unstoppable Rap competition and has been nominated for important accolades including the Crystal Awards, for which he garnered three nods in 2015. In addition to Tim Godfrey, Todd Dulaney, Osby Berry, Jonathan McReynolds, Chevelle Franklyn, Phil Thompson, Tasha Cobbs, Joe Mettle, and Koyrn Hawthorne, Limoblaze was nominated on March 29 for Best International Act, and on May 11, 2019, he won the Premier Gospel Awards, which were hosted in London. Additionally, Limoblaze has won two African Gospel Music and Media Awards (AGMMA).When asked by Premier Gospel for the secret of his success, he said: “It’s the hand of God. I am very hardworking; I push myself beyond limits but it’s the grace of God. The Holy Spirit recently reminded me that it’s not the excellence of my music that has brought me this far, but the hand of God. I do not look to awards for validation, but it tells me that people are paying attention to me and that my name is in the conversation. The Premier Gospel Awards was a highlight for me as I was up against some big heavy hitters.”

He also loves acting and featured in a movie titled “Payday” alongside Zack Orji and other big names in the industry. Signed under independent records, he is currently a founding member of the Cross Rhythm Music crew of 5, and affiliated with 2corf North House.
