Over the years, there have been a debate about polygamous marriages, and God’s says about it. We know that Islam approves polygamous unions as long as the husband portrays the ability to cater for the wives and children.

Christianity on the other hand, specifically states that marriage is a one man, one wife affair.
Apostle Paul’s instructions to Titus and Timothy on the requirements for someone to serve in the church includes that he must be a husband of one wife.
Even in Genesis, God said:“For this reason a man should leave his father and mother and be united to his wife and they will become one flesh”.

Although many argue that Solomon in the old testament of the bible, who is the wisest man to have ever lived on earth had about 700 wives and 300 concubines; but the new testament makes it clear that monogamy is the right way.
With all these, you will still find some pastors and religious leaders practising polygamy, and they always justify their actions by referencing scriptures from the old testament of the Bible.

Meet Patrick Kimera, a Ugandan pastor at End Time Message Gospel Church, who has four wives and justifies his polygamous way of life. He became popular for his controversial doctrines after an interview with Daily Monitor some years back.
He was quoted saying: “My father got married to six women. He lived with three of them in the same building and still we all were very happy. As kids, we showed love and respect to all the mothers and to each other even to a point where you could never claim that only one was your mom.”

According to Patrick: “Polygamous marriages was meant to help women, it is not a punishment. Monogamy has failed even in the Western world, that is why people are killing their spouses and many homes are broken”

He claims that the bible allows a man to marry more than one wife, but it only warns against forgetting your first wife after marrying another. He said that his wives know and love each other, he loves them equally and let’s them know when he wants to marry another one.
