Mercy Benjamin’s mother fumes: I wash my hands off you and the calamity about to befall you

Reactions have continued to trail the outbursts of Mercy Benjamin who has now become famous or infamous depending on which side of the divide you belong to. Her allegations which beamed its searchlight on Pastor Kumuyi, the General Overseer of Deeper Life Bible Ministry over the supposedly ugly experiences of her childhood, has taken a different turn. The woman who bore and nursed her, has made her stand known.

Just as many would have wondered about the stance of her parents on the issue. The mother who from all indications is not in support of her daughter’s outbursts, berated her daughter’s behaviour by stating emphatically that she has washed her hands off her daughter and the calamity about to befall her. Mercy disclosed this on her Facebook page.

Mercy Benjamin who obviously does not care whose ox is gored, has relentlessly, continued to air her views on her social media handle. She seems to be the rave of the moment, as she continues to post startling revelations of her alleged experiences, while growing up as a member of the populous pentecostal church.

She insists that she holds her dad; a very strict Navy man and Pastor Kumuyi, responsible for her traumatic childhood. Other sundry issues like the use of non-scented soap, as opposed to the scented ones, for the fear of going to hell, top her list of displeasure.

While some are of the opinion that she needs to air her grievances, stating that they are solidly by her side. Some are however concerned about the manner she is going about it, with a deep tone of atheism. They believe there needs to be a restrain, as she needs to be wary of her statements.

The Holy Scriptures clearly states that a child should be trained in the way he should go and when he grows, he will not depart from it. But what happens when your child, who has become a full grown adult, decides to depart from the trainings, under the notion that the tenets of his/her training is faulty? Is she taking the right step or is it a faulty step which she will regret sooner than later?
