Bola Are is a Yoruba gospel singer, and one of the pioneers of gospel music in Nigeria. She was once the President of the Gospel Musicians Association of Nigeria (GOMAN).The vibrant and spirit-filled singer was trained by four major Christ Apostolic Church prophets – Apostle Ayodele Babalola, Prophet Babajide, Prophet Akande, and Prophet T.O. Obadare. While growing up, Bola Are spent most of her time on the mountain and receives her inspiration from the holy spirit.Bola Are got married to late Pastor J.O. Are in 1977, and they are blessed with children. Her children are also singers and instrumentalists.
Bola Are in a recent interview with BBC Yoruba made it known to gospel musicians to be very careful of what they sing and she emphasized on a song that the lyrics says “God doesn’t look at how I act, he doesn’t look at my behaviour, he just keeps taking care of me” . Bola Are said God told her in a revelation that the song is not from him,that it’s wrong, that is it with bad attitude or with a prostitute looks , that the song should be revised.
Mike Abdul a gospel singer also reply to a follower on Bukola Bekes instagram page who reposted saying
“sometimes our expression are based on our experience and the life the songs comes with to reach a particular audience making the interpretation more vivid to the designer of the art. Our individual interpretation sometimes may not read the mind or gratitude portrayed by the singer or songwriter. However, mama’s concerns are genuine”.
