NHS resolves disciplinary action against a Christian physician for offering to pray with patients

Doctor who offered to pray with patients and was later penalised by the NHS has reached a settlement.

A Christian doctor who faced disciplinary action from NHS England after offering to pray with his patients has reached a settlement with the organization.

The NHS threatened to remove 35-year GP Dr. Richard Scott from its list of authorized GPs unless he paid to attend a £1,800 ‘professional boundaries’ course.

He was threatened with a psychiatric evaluation if he did not participate in the training.

Prior to Dr. Scott’s scheduled Monday hearing in Ashford, Kent, to fight the disciplinary proceedings, NHS England reached a settlement.

To reach this compromise, NHS England acknowledged Dr. Scott’s right to pray with patients in accordance with GMC regulations.

Dr. Scott attended a one-day course on ethical conduct as a goodwill gesture.

Dr. Scott expressed his gratitude to NHS England for settling the lawsuit, saying that he was “relieved” by the decision but that “it never should have come to this.”

As far as I could tell, the program they wanted to have me enroll in was designed for sexually deviant and dishonest people. For the life of me, I couldn’t find anything that applied to me. He remarked, “I was angry.”

“Unfortunately, I have seen widespread prejudice from certain sections of the NHS against Christian views, as well as a total lack of understanding of what prayer is and how it positively benefits people’s lives.”

Despite the fact that Dr. Scott was twice exonerated of violating the General Medical Council’s standards about prayer in a separate investigation, NHS England nevertheless disciplined him.

Dr. Scott said that he was “humiliated and pressured” by NHS England.

Dr. Scott’s prayer sessions with patients have not shown any sign of interfering with his ability to provide top-notch medical care. His spiritual care has helped many people overcome their dependence on alcohol and drugs and return to productive lives in society.

“It has been especially distressing to watch NHS England focusing on a Christian doctor who is rightly delivering emotional and spiritual assistance at a time when there is broad acknowledgment that emotional and spiritual help play a vital role in physical recovery.”
