Opinion: 3 Lies About Bishop Oyedepo’s Winners Chapel that people actually believe

I wasn’t born in Living Faith Church. In fact, I used to be a Mountain of Fire member and my parents were MFM members as at the time I was born. The way I became a member of Winners’ Chapel is kind of a very weird coincidence. 

At age 8, in 2009, my mum was annoyed with me, for something I did on a Sunday morning, so she left angrily warning me not to follow her, or to risk being beaten. So I didn’t follow. At that time, my dad already started attending LFC, so I and my big brother, decided to go there. When I got there and I was given a biscuit, I immediately knew “this is my new home” lol.

Anyway, September 2019, made it 10 years that I have attended Winners’ Chapel, and I’ve devoutly served in units, and worshipped God, obeying every instruction from the altar. But when I moved to Lagos in 2020, I can’t but notice that there are actually a lot of misconceptions about Living Faith Church, that I, as a once devoted member can confirm that is a lie. Here are the three most fallacious.

Winners vs RCCG

I’m like “what!” No, LFC is independent, yeah, RCCG is independent too. Bishop Oyedepo and Pastor Adeboye are not in any kind of competition whatsoever. In fact, interestingly, Pastor Adeboye is the one who annointed the Bishop at the start of the ministry.

So when I hear stuff like “Winners is actually better than RCCG” or “People respect Adeboye more than Oyedepo”, I just laugh. It’s a misconception.

Prosperity

Living Faith Church has a number of mandates which includes the Liberation Mandate, the Prosperity mandate and the most recent, Wonder Double agenda that came in 2015. 

But somehow, people think the only thing the Bishop preaches about is prosperity. No, there are actually twelve pillars representing each months of the year. They include Wisdom, Prayer and Fasting, Consecration, Prosperity, Faith and others. 

Honestly, the preachings these days are all about winning souls to the kingdom and less of how to get rich. You might have to travel out to get that. 

Rich People

I have been billed a lot of times because people think once I’m attending Winners Chapel, my bills will be footed by the church and they’d pay my school fees or something. But that’s a big conspiracy, it’s not true.

It’s also in the same category as people thinking, huh, he attends Winners, he must be loaded. Actually, no. I’ve seen a lot of poor people go in and out of the church. Even me, I come from a poor family. I’m still poor. Unfortunately, attending Winners doesn’t make you rich. Faith, as they say, without work is dead!
