Pastor Adeboye Recounts and Encounter When He Asked God A Question that made God Angry

Familiarity, it is said, breeds contempt. This adage aptly captures an encounter several decades ago in which widely revered holiness preacher, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye found himself, ostensibly, out of familiarity with God.

Pastor Adeboye is the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), a church whose headquarters is based in Nigeria but with parishes in about 200 nations of the world.

There was a time Daddy G.O., as he is fondly called, took advantage of a scriptural promise in Psalm 25 verse14, which says;”The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant”, to approach the Almighty.

Pastor Adeboye has an advantage of being close to God on account of his meekness, his being a lover of righteousness, and, of course, his almost fanatical mode of worshipping and adulating God, in both private and public life.

While ministering during one of his sermons on Dove Television, Pastor Adeboye Recounts the encounter where an inquisitive question he raised before God, incurred the anger of God.

The plank of his homily centered on how not to take God for granted because of familiarity with Him.

Hear Daddy Adeboye: “Let me tell you an encounter I once had with God several years ago. I love God. This is the reason why I worship him always and offer thanksgiving to Him. I prefer to spend 90 % of the time I spend with Him, worshipping Him, extolling His greatness and thanking Him for all His wonders and faithfulness.

“I don’t go into the presence of God just to ask for provisions or supplies of what I need. I just praise Him and then He comes down in His majesty, and under that atmosphere, we can converse and discuss and I use the opportunity to ask Him secret things.

“I had just finished a detailed study of King Solomon and all his God-given opulence and the endowment of wisdom that God gave him.

“Now, right in the presence of God, I began to wonder and in amazement, I asked my Father: What did you see in Solomon that you lavished so much love on him and even made him a king, despite his many baggage, in the sense that he was a product of a polygamous marriage.

“Little did I know I had crossed my boundary with God. He was infuriated because of my question He considered foolish.

” Daddy answered back in the same coin. Do you know the question he posed back to me? He said: ‘What did I see in you too that I lavish so much grace on you and even ordained you a pastor, despite the fact that you too are a product of a polygamous marriage. Answer me, the mother who gave birth to you, is she the first wife of your father?’

“At that point, I began to weep, rolling on the floor and begging God for mercy. I admitted His greatness, His plenteous mercy and loving kindness, and more importantly, I had overstepped my boundary.

” Indeed, our God that we serve is not a man. He is the Lord, Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscience. His love for us is unconditional, not because of what we did for Him or what we did not do. He said to Moses: I will have mercy on whom I choose to have mercy “
