I remember reading a book once where the author said something like this: “You cannot be in a successful dating relationship if you never had a successful single life.” In other words, if you mess up your life as a single person, you will not have a good dating relationship.
Faith Oyedepo has also said the same thing. Talking about having a successful Christian relationship, she said that if your heart is not panting after God when you were a single person, the chances of you developing this habit as a married person will be slim.
You see, God said that a man will leave his father and mother, to cleave to his wife, so they can become one flesh. I believe that the one flesh is a conglomeration of two single fleshes. The word “single” means whole, complete or unified. If you cannot find wholeness or completeness as a single person, what makes you think you would find it when you get married?
Besides, as a christian, our completeness is found in Jesus Christ. That’s why Paul said that we are complete in Jesus Christ. It’s also why your single life as a christian should be lived with a heart that pants after the one that completes you. That’s why you should pray, study the word, attend fellowship and offer your stewardship services to the one who completes you. Doing this will ensure you meet a partner who has the same kind of heart that you have (since like minds attract each other), and your marriage will be successful.
