According to his interview with PunchNG, Pastor Jerry was raised by a Christian mother who instilled godly virtues in him. His mother introduced him to God by saying that he would become a  voice in his generation and that he was going to serve God. That was how I grew up and continued in my journey with God. I grew up in a poor home; I must not forget to say that my mom was quite indigent. I already mentioned the fact that she is a single parent. That was how our journey started. Maybe, I would just say that poverty was one of the factors that made us seek the Lord because there was nothing else to hope on than to just cling to God. And the rest is history; that’s my journey to where I am right now.

My background actually brought me to a place of humility. So, till today, I don’t know any material acquisition or gift that could make me proud. My background also brought me to the place of prayers. People say, ‘Oh, he prays, he is known to be a man of prayers,’ it wasn’t accidental; it was something that started since I was young. God used my background, the issues, everything, to bring me to a place where I had an intimacy with Him. And also right now, it’s easy to be broken with God but it was situations that started breaking me down. It was the apparent (material) lack that we faced that broke me down.  Away from that, loving God and being into God come from my background when you know that nothing else mattered except God.

Pastor Jerry Uchechukwu Eze Biography

During your prayer sessions, you are renowned for acting aggressively, as though you were battling some elemental powers. What influenced this brutal approach?

That comes primarily from the fact that I’m angry with the devil. Every day of my life, I open messages, emails and I’m seeing that someone is down with cancer, someone just died; there is so much pain in the world. Half of the time, people are masking their pain; people are hurt and going through very difficult issues. Sometimes, I tend to believe that 90 per cent of people in the world are hurting. People are hurting in different ways, regardless of the big mansions and other material acquisitions. Sometimes, I usually tell people who don’t have enough, ‘Be happy where you are o, because you don’t know the problems of the people you think are doing well.’ My aggression comes from the mere fact that I’m angry with the devil because God is not the doer of all these things. The Bible says God cannot be tempted with evil, so he is not the one causing the people this pain; He is not the one causing this level of shame. It, first of all, comes to me as pain that generally translates to anger. So, I wake up every morning and maybe when I’m done with the prayers, when I pray all through the night, I come out with a burden. I just feel like I’m a pregnant woman and that I just had to get this thing off. The pain I see people go through is a landmark of my passion. I’m not doing this for appearance, I love people, I want to see people set free. Every time I see God do all these miracles in the lives of the people, it just brings a new lease of life to my spirit.

Beyond prayers, what other help do you provide for people whose challenges may not be spiritual in nature?

Our organization is known as the Spring of Joy Foundation. But let me clarify: I don’t think your difficulties are spiritual since sometimes individuals think they just need support, which is what you provideals think they just need support, which is what you provide. Your assistance would be useless if they were struggling with spiritual issues. We must first locate God, for it is said, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness.” Everyone who asserts, “My issue is not spiritual,” is mistaken. Your main issue is finding God and developing a routine with him. Anything else can occur. As a ministry, we have constructed a home for a widow, we make payments on debts, and we make an ongoing effort to improve the lives of others in our community. A tuition-free primary school in a remote location is one of our ministry’s projects that I’ll be announcing on my 39th birthday anniversary, which is coming up on August 22, 2021. We’d provide food for the students, and it would be staffed by trained teachers.

I make the bold claim that I am a man of prayer since I have never slept through the night in the previous 13 years of my life. Over the previous 13 years of my life, I have prayed at midnight and throughout the morning. Therefore, no one interacts with God at such a level that he would emerge, and the sky would not pour insights for people down upon you. For me, it’s a method to help someone solve their difficulty, not a chance to show off my talents. I then responded to God, “If this is what you’re going to do, then you’re giving me this to touch lives; if it touches people, then I’m willing to do anything for God.”

You said you’ve prayed every night for the past 13 years; has this not affected your health?

It can never affect my health. The prayers were why NSPPD was birthed because for every move of God, He took his time to prepare the man behind it. So, I am a man who wasn’t prepared on the stage; I was prepared behind the scene. That’s why people are coming out to say, ‘Oh my goodness, where did this guy come from?’ and all that. All over Nigeria and all over the world, people are asking where he came from. I wasn’t made in a day; there were solid years when He was cooking me behind the scene; nobody knew about it.

You said God took time to ‘cook’ you; what has this cost you?

Everything was taken from me, even my life. I no longer have a life. I spend my days alone in prayer. Just a few individuals are around me now; I don’t have any friends any more. I’m currently in a situation where the Holy Spirit has thrown a wrench in my plans. I currently find myself in a situation where I am continuously required to act spiritually outside of the norm. I carry other people’s burdens with me every day. It has stolen everything from me because I’m at that point where I’ve poured out my life like a libation. I tell people that it has taken luxury and pleasure. I’m not an average person. Some people were not made to be normal; instead, they were made to support others. In order for my generation to achieve their destiny, I have chosen that road and to be that person.

What served as the basis for NSPPD’s social media live prayer program?

Well, to be quite honest, NSPPD did not intend for the campaign to be posted on social media. I called a couple members of my church during the COVID-19 lockdown and requested that we strategize on what we could do better. They responded that they couldn’t come due to COVID-19. I consequently said, “Oh my gosh, this is truly horrible.” I was upset at the time and questioned how the devil could win. Then I told my wife, “Let’s get online and be encouraging people and spreading the word of God. “I promised my wife we would go online with the Psalm 91 I had just finished so we could use it to inspire people at the moment.

I had just finished the Psalm 91 series. NSPPD has its beginnings at that point. It wasn’t as though God instructed me to utilize the platform; everything was part of God’s plan. God didn’t fully explain things to me, but I was aware of the season I was in when He said, “A time will come when I will change the course of your ministry.” By the time we got going, we found that COVID-19 patients had recovered. As a result, we started setting aside time to pray for people who had COVID-19. After that, more miracles started to happen, one after another.
Have you ever been seduced by a woman?

Not now that I’m so well known; that happened a long time ago. Who hasn’t given in to temptation? I fled as a young woman came in front of me while she was nude. I must admit that it affected my body in some way, but I fled, which put an end to that incident. However, as things stand today, I don’t believe a young woman would be able to see me alone, much less consider stripping off.

At the university, he discovered love. When I arrived at the fellowship to deliver the sermon, the executive committee of the fellowship was being introduced, and when my wife’s name was spoken, I heard someone say, “That’s your wife,” without more explanation. I turned to look at her location. I inquired about her through a church member, and that is how I either discovered love or love found me. I informed her that I wished to wed her. I didn’t woo her or make an approach. I was very rudimentary in these areas.
