Pastor Kumuyi describes how a young Christian who used the Scripture during a job interview was rejected.

At a recent worship service, Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, lectured on “The Privilege Of Belonging To God’s Earthly And Heavenly Family.”

He discussed “The Faithful Brothers and Sisters of Christ” in one of his subtopics. He said that there was something he needed to clarify concerning the query that Jesus posed, stating, “My mother, who is she?” “Who are my brethren, exactly?” and related the tale of a young Christian who failed a job interview after quoting about Jesus.

“I heard of a Christian who recently experienced newfound love for the Bible, Christ, and his brand-new faith,” the man remarked. Until he reached John 14:8–9, which states, “Philip said unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficed us,” he had been reading the Bible. Jesus asks him, “Philip, have I been with you for such a long time and yet you have not known me?” Since anybody who has seen me has also seen the Father, how can you say, “Show us the Father?”

He said, “These lines captured the attention of this young Christian, who memorized them.” And he went for a job interview. His interviewer’s name was Phillip. He told him to tell him about his education, his credentials, and what he brought to the table. The interview came to a close when he spoke these same words that Jesus did in verse 9. He lost his job. The job was not given to him. “Jesus will say certain things that we won’t exactly quote.”

The clergyman said, “Those are not Jesus’ words for us to pull out and quote in that manner.” These are not phrases you can carry with you everywhere you go. Jesus asked, “Who is my mother?” and you cannot cite the same thing. Never forget that Jesus is the Son of God, the Redeemer, and the Lamb of God who bore the sins of the entire world. You can’t compare a mother, brother, or sister to the heavenly Father since He obeyed the Father in Heaven exactly as He was told to do when it comes to the divine or supernatural. We cannot do this again.

He ended by saying, “You cannot repeat Jesus’ question, “Who is my mother?” to you young people. Your mother is the one who shapes, mentors, watches over, and develops you. Jesus was not to be fully controlled or directed by Mary since He was God incarnate, or God in human form.
