The number of churches in Nigeria is at an all time high. There are so many churches in Nigeria that to some extent, the churches outnumber the number of schools. There has been a constant debate whether it is right for a particular church to open several branches in a single area.
The Redeemed Christian Church of God supports this movement and in their mission statement, they clearly stated that they want their church to be everywhere. They clearly do not mind how close the churches are.
I had the opportunity to read a message written by Pastor Kumuyi who is the head of the Deeper Life Church. In this message, he talked about evangelism and planting of churches. The man of God claimed that many christians and churches are no longer abiding by the true meaning of evangelism.
Christians no longer plant churches were they really need to, instead, they go already fertile and cultivated lands to plant churches. These places already have branches and the word of God is already popular there. You need to go spots and places were people have not heard about Christ, places like villages and rural areas.
He called this true evangelism and clearly stated that there is a greater reward for it. I clearly agree with him, Nigerian churches are very fond of doing this. They will clot a particular area with there churches while they are villages that absolutely nothing about God.
They tend to forget that the goal is not to open churches, the goal is to win souls to the most high God and bring people into his divine kingdom.
Pastor Kumuyi is also right to say this because his church do not operate like that. This is not me saying that it is wrong to open too many churches, but to open a church is fairly expensive and spending that money on true evangelism will yield more gain.
