Every parent’s dream is to see their children succeed but it is quite unfortunate that some children die before fulfilling their destiny. However, Dr. Uma Ukpai told the story of how his children died in a motor accident. He said that the car drove off the road and into the river on the day his children died. In an attempt to save the children, he dived into the river.
His wife likewise dived into the river, where she was carried and thrown up six times by the current. It wasn’t until the seventh time that it was brought to his attention. He turned around and swam with one hand while carrying her with the other. He left her at the bank and went to get the kids. They hadn’t passed away. He then put the kids in the car to pray for them, but an oncoming vehicle slammed into the car from the opposite direction.
He revealed that the next morning, he went to preach and people asked, ‘what would you preach? He told them the same old message because that accident couldn’t change anything in his mind. He said that many had no child, you can’t buy a child from any market, so it’s only God that gives. He said that they have been traveling on that same road for years, the driver had been his driver all those years. So, if God over these years had protected them and then lowered the hedge, why would he protest? “So, I marched on,” he said.
Finally, he said that when somebody dies, only those who love him will cry and the way you cry shows how much you love the person. But God has made it that all you have is not your own. He then advised that you don’t attach yourself to them and once you believe it in your heart you can handle any situation. We can cry, yes, but it should not stop us from loving God and doing the right thing.
