Professors Attempt to Deprive Valedictorian of Future Opportunities Due to His Beliefs, but Now…

Professors Attempted to Destroy the Valedictorian’s Future Because of His Biblical Worldview, But Now…

After having his valedictory talk deemed “hate speech” by a number of faculty members, a valedictorian from a Mexican institution is finally obtaining his degree and license to practice psychology.

ADF International, a religious freedom advocacy group, reports that professors at Mexico’s Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) demanded that the university revoke Christian Cortez Pérez’s academic degree and psychology license because of his remarks at the university’s commencement ceremony.

The University Council determined last week that “the grounds offered by the aggrieved party are unjustified, as are the consequences demanded, and for this reason the appeal submitted is rejected.”

Professors with agendas who attempt to penalize students with whom they disagree may be deadly, as Cortez Pérez’s experience demonstrates. This is a fantastic victory for individual liberties, and it is imperative that educational institutions uphold students’ right to free expression.

Reports from CBN News indicate that Cortez Pérez was selected to give the graduating speech at his June 2018 graduation.

In it, he shared his moral perspective on the current status of the world and offered solutions.

He then quoted G.K. Chesterton: “People do not know what they are doing; because they do not know what they are undoing.”

Cortez Pérez spoke against extreme gender ideology and the redefining of the family.

“Today we are deep into a true anthropological war to redefine the human being, the human person, man via the application of ideologies and fads of thinking that invariably end up destroying dignity and freedom,” he added.

As a result, a group of academics responded by publishing a “manifesto” that effectively banned him from practicing psychology.
The institution complied with his requirements by starting legal actions to revoke his license to practice, take away his merit award, and inform psychological groups throughout Mexico about his comments.

To defend his legal rights, Cortez Perez filed a counterclaim.

“A successful campaign against Christian would send a message that everyone who speaks up in public in Mexico puts themselves in harm’s way. This behavior is reminiscent of dictatorships rather than democracies, and it violates international human rights legislation “At the time, ADF International’s legal counsel, Kristina Hjelkrem, made the following statement.

Now that the legal issues have been settled, psychologist Cortez Pérez may open his practice.

He said, “I am pleased that the University has acknowledged that I done no wrong in using my free speech rights to talk about topics of significant moral importance from the graduation stage.”

“This decision proves beyond a reasonable doubt that Christian’s professors’ retaliatory attacks were politically motivated. It’s terrible that Christian had to go through what she did, but maybe this will serve as a reminder to others that they, too, have a right to free speech at a public institution “Mexican lawyer Carlos Ramirez, who is handling Christian’s case, made that statement. In and out of the classroom, “free expression is vital” to developing one’s mind.

Professors’ efforts to revoke Cortez Perez’s degree represent “cancel culture at its worst,” Hjelkrem said.

Christian “suffered substantial reputational injury” and “faced the actual fear of losing his license to practice his profession” because of “a silencing and sanctioning effort begun by his teachers,” she added. “The attempts to penalize him were in violation of the human right to freedom of expression, which is protected by international law, and this is a prime example of the worst of cancel culture. It’s important to hear by everyone who cares about protecting the right to free expression.”
