RCCG Tabernacle of David Launch projects, which were funded at a cost of N130 million, commissioned by Babajide Sanwo-Olu

His Excellency, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, The Executive Governor, Lagos State, on Tuesday, September 4, 2019 commissioned the Christian Social Responsibility projects embarked upon, and completed by, The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Tabernacle of David. The projects, which were funded at a cost of N130 million, are:

  1. The design, construction and furnishing of a 12-classroom block at the Resettlement Community Junior Secondary School, and
  2. The upgrade and equipping of the Resettlement Community Primary Healthcare Center.
The projects are in line with the vision of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) to touch people’s lives, by improving standards of living, providing good education and health, and through infrastructural development.
The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Tabernacle of David (otherwise known as TOD) is a 5,000 strong church geared towards enhancing the physical and spiritual quality of life within the Ajah community and beyond.
In his keynote address, Pastor Olukayode Pitan, the Pastor in Charge of RCCG Lagos Province 46 (with its headquarters at Tabernacle of David), stated that TOD has been in the Ajah locality for over 10 years. Fruitful engagements with the host community and its leaders ensured that the projects selected were determined by the community, in response to their pressing needs. The decision to build the school was in response to the paucity of public schools in the area, the nearest public school being the Olomu primary school across the expressway. Individuals reported that it could take up to one hour to safely cross the expressway. There are daily reports of accidents involving young children, leading to loss of life and limb.
We have built a school which the teeming population of children walking the streets and hawking goods for their parents can attend. This classroom block was constructed and equipped at a cost of N80 million. All plumbing and electrification work have been completed and the building linked to the national grid. 400 desks and chairs were also supplied for the use of the pupils. The building, which comprises 12 classrooms, 14 toilets, 2 staff rooms and a borehole with overhead storage facilities, is ready for immediate use.
In discussions with the Local Government chairman Eti Osa East LCDA, Honourable Olufunmilayo Rafiu Olatunji, it emerged that the Primary Health Care Center within the same community was not yet operational despite the completion of the building. RCCG Tabernacle of David renovated the existing building and provided the required equipment. Today, at a cost of N50 million, the center is in operation and salaries are provided for doctors, nurses and other health service providers. The salaries of the staff will be fully covered by the church for the next one year . RCCG TOD also provided three-month seed stock of essential drugs as start up.
Other CSR projects which have been implemented by RCCG Tabernacle of David during the 10-year period it has been a part of the community include:
    • Empowering widows yearly
    • Feeding over 500 Ikota community children every Sunday
    • Medical outreaches
    • Educational support programmes
    • Provision of borehole facilities at Olomu Secondary School Ajah
    • Road maintenance at Ikota environs
    • Clearing drainage on Mobil road
    • Equipping a computer laboratory of a secondary school in the Sangotedo area.
These projects would not have been possible without Almighty God who gave the vision; and gave grace and enablement to see the projects to completion.
The exemplary leadership of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God has been pivotal to the success of CSR projects. His commitment to CSR is demonstrated in his appointment of the Special Assistant to the General Overseer (SATGO) CSR, Pastor Idowu Iluyomade, who was represented at the event.
The commissioning event was well attended. The Governor was accompanied by members of the Lagos State Executive Council and Body of Permanent Secretaries. The Chairman Eti Osa East LCDA, Honourable Rafiu Olatunji led his Council members. The Royal fathers were led by Oba Saheed Elegushi of Ikate land and Oba Elejigbo of Langbasa Community. The Council of Baales for the 22 resettled communities, who were also present, expressed their appreciation to the church for providing facilities that “had eluded them for 26 years.”
RCCG Tabernacle of David has made a long-standing commitment to sup-port sustainable development projects in the community.
It is our desire, that these projects will inspire other religious organizations, Non-Government Organizations (NGO’s) and corporate organizations to synergize with local governments and communities to create lasting impact.
