Speaking in Tongues is Not For Some Christian Denominations – Pastor Chris Oyakhilome

Today’s article is based on the statement of The President of Believer’s Loveworld aka Christ Embassy during the ongoing your Loveworld series.

As he was sharing on the mystery of Christ yesterday, he made a statement which is very profound, and I think every Christian should know this.

As he emphasized on the power and importance of speaking in tongues, he shared that speaking in tongues is not just for some denominations like many think. It is not restricted to the pastors and spiritual leaders neither is is peculiar to a few churches.

Unlike many Orthodox Churches practice, prayer should not just be in the heart but be said with the mouth, through words of the spirit which are tongues.

Now What is Speaking in Tongues?

Speaking in tongues is an act of communication to God by the words given by the holy spirit. Tongues is not man’s language and without the revelation of the spirit, we do not have understanding of what is being said. This is why we as Christians need to study 1 Corinthians 14 and understand the importance of speaking in tongues.

So contrary to what some people think speaking in tongues is not acting or unnecessary showoff, it is what God wants us to do. This is why apostle Paul said I thank my God that I speak in tongues more than you all.

Must All Christians Speak in Tongues?

Yes we must. Except of course you want to remain a baby Christian and lack the experience of fellowship with the holy spirit. Speaking in tongues is proof that you have the holy spirit and that you can pray effectively.

Let us see these excerpts from the scripture

For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all; Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues.

I Corinthians 14:14‭, ‬18‭, ‬39 NKJV

Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Romans 8:26‭-‬27 NKJV

This shows that the words of the man of God is right and every Christian in every church should speak in tongues. There is a realm in the spirit you cannot get to if you do not pray in the holy ghost.
